Maintenance and entertainment will be guaranteed by a collaboration agreement between the Municipality, Municipality 3, Il Disc golf and Cascina Biblioteca. Lipparini: “A beautiful project that combines sport, greenery and sociality”

Milan, June 19 2019 - Saturday 22 June 2019 at 10 a double appointment at Parco Lambro in the name of greenery, outdoor sports and collaboration between citizens and institutions. The first Italian public disc golf course will be inaugurated and, at the same time, the collaboration agreement will be signed between the Municipality of Milan, Municipio 30, the Il Disc golf association and Cascina Biblioteca to take care of the areas, ensuring small maintenance of the field and animating it with tournaments and initiatives open to all.

Disc golf is a sport that is played with rules very similar to those of traditional golf but with discs (frisbees) instead of clubs and balls and a metal basket (basketball) instead of a hole in the ground. The objective is to complete the 12-hole course with the least number of throws, each hole ends by landing the disc inside the basket.

The creation of Disc golf is also innovative from the point of view of its care and management: the green sector of the Municipality of Milan has equipped a little-used part of Parco Lambro, in Viale Turkey, with the necessary 12 holes, and at the same time Municipality 3 has urged the association to become an active part of a collaboration pact, the instrument provided for by the Regulation for the management of common goods, promoted by the Department of Participation, Active Citizenship and Open Data and approved by the Municipality of Milan in the month of May.

"We are inaugurating a beautiful project that combines sport, care for greenery and sociality, comments Lorenzo Lipparini (Participation, Active Citizenship and Open Data). Over a month after the entry into force of the Common Goods Regulation, we are recording significant interest in the collaboration, with numerous proposals that now reach us on a weekly basis. Furthermore, in the management of common goods, municipalities are proving to be excellent interlocutors and facilitators, thanks to their closeness to citizens and attention to the territory. Collaboration between institutions, associations, citizens, volunteers and even private entities is essential for the success of initiatives like this."

“Municipalities, institutions close to the territory, can play an important role in encouraging citizens and associations to collaborate with the Municipality for the care of greenery and urban common goods. The Disc golf agreement will guarantee entertainment, maintenance and supervision of the park by the users themselves, one of the most effective ways to promote the quality of the greenery", declares Antonella Bruzzese, Councilor for Urban Planning, Greenery and Public Space of the Municipality.

“The disc golf course at Parco Lambro will be the first Italian experience of a course that is totally free, public and open to citizens who want to try their hand at this new sporting activity”, underlines Massimo Scarinzi, Councilor for Sport of Municipality 3.

“Thanks to this form of collaboration, we will be able to manage that portion of public space, supported by the institutions, offering all our expertise to citizens and the disc golf community – declares Alfredo Lazzarin, founder of the IL Disc golf association and promoter of the Pact - . The commitment and support we have received has allowed the realization of this ambitious project, the first in Italy, public and free, which makes us proud. The partnership with Cascina Biblioteca and Fatto da Yo is fundamental, as they have always been at our side in recent years. From today, we will have the opportunity to organize Italian championships, corporate events, school courses and public events aimed at everyone."

The signing of the collaboration agreement is scheduled for 10 am at Cascina Biblioteca in via Casoria 30 in the presence of the Councilor for Participation, Open Data and Active Citizenship of the Municipality of Milan Lorenzo Lipparini, of the associations Il Disc golf and Cascina Biblioteca, a cooperative which deals with social inclusion, personal services and job placements, and with some representatives of Municipality 50. The ribbon cutting will follow to inaugurate the disc golf course in Viale Turkey with the President of Municipality 3 Caterina Antola, who expressed great satisfaction for this moment of collaboration, sport and care of the greenery.
