Announcement of neighborhoods. One million euros available for urban regeneration projects throughout the city

Candidates will have to formulate a proposal that focuses on one of the nine municipalities based on 18 themes identified by the Administration

Milan, May 25 2019 – Urban regeneration, the Call is back to animate neighborhoods and strengthen activities and services aimed at inhabitants with projects that involve territorial networks and support citizens' organisations.

In its third edition, this year it will be called "Quarterhoods Notice 2019" and, after the approval of the guidelines by the Council, it will be published in the next few days, open to the participation of foundations, non-profit organisations, tenants' committees (if established in association), voluntary associations, social, sporting, cultural promotion, food policy and environmental sustainability associations, both individually and in partnership forms. The Administration's contribution will, as last year, be equal to one million euros, and each selected project will be able to obtain co-financing of up to 40 thousand euros. The time for carrying out the activities is the period between September this year and the end of June 2020.

The Notice is intertwined with the framework of the broad neighborhood plan, responding to the need, a priority for the Administration, to pay particular attention to the quality of life of those who live in the city and, at the same time, to stimulate the activities and projects that they arise "from below", to thus contribute to strengthening the work of the protagonists of Milan's urban regeneration.

Compared to last year, the areas of reference have been extended to involve the entire city, including the historic center area: participants will therefore be able to apply with projects that focus on one of the municipal names into which the city is divided and which, another innovation compared to past editions, must be linked to specific themes chosen also through the involvement of municipalities.

In fact, also on the basis of the suggestions that have emerged and the experience gained in recent years, the Administration has identified 18 strategic intervention themes (two for each municipality) on which to concentrate its efforts and proposals, which will be detailed in the Notice and ranging from activities typically aimed at young people (also aimed at preventing alcohol and drug abuse) to those promoting safety as a collective good, from initiatives centered on sport to recreational-cultural ones, from social cohesion interventions to those who enhance the environment as a driver of economic development and employment. Central among the proposed themes is that of empowering citizens, which passes through projects for the improvement and beautification of public spaces, such as squares, streets, green areas, children's games, walls, school courtyards and areas outside schools. The fact that the proposals are developed by involving the public housing districts, both municipal and ALER, and their inhabitants is a rewarding element.

The first edition of the Notice to the Suburbs, in 2017, attracted great interest from Third Sector bodies, with the participation of 375 entities who presented, individually or in partnership, 150 proposals for regeneration projects in the suburbs, including 14 "winning" initiatives were then selected, which received funding from the Administration. The 2018 edition of the Call aroused even more interest, with the participation of 419 subjects for 173 proposals, 26 of which were awarded the Administration's contribution.
