Autonomy. Raggi, Sala and de Magistris: “Common path to escape the stalemate of metropolitan areas”

Conference call between mayors to formulate a concrete proposal to the Government on local public transport, school buildings and public housing

Milan, 9 December 2019 - Virginia Raggi, Giuseppe Sala and Luigi de Magistris, mayors of the three main metropolitan areas of Italy, Rome, Milan and Naples, spoke today in a video conference call to jointly launch a proposal aimed at overcoming the current stalemate situation in which metropolitan cities find themselves.

The common will is in fact to formulate, in a proactive approach towards the Government, some concrete proposals to improve the effectiveness of political and administrative action on their territories.

The mayors agree on the usefulness of jointly addressing particular critical issues that the large metropolitan areas of the city have in common (such as local public transport, school buildings, public housing, but not only), also with a view to experimental testing compared to other metropolitan cities. Given the reflection, underway at a national level, on differentiated autonomy, the three mayors ask to be involved, together with the regions, in the relevant working table with Minister Boccia.
