Public transport. The Council launches the tariff proposal for examination by the Council

Subscription at the same price and in installments. Improvements for seniors and young people, with free admission for up to 14 years old. Multiple stamping in the subway

Milan, May 31 2019 – The Administration today launched the proposal on new public transport tariffs in the city. The proposal is based on the new tariff system (STIBM) of the Basin Agency and introduces improvements to protect season tickets and young and old people. It will be illustrated to the Mobility Commission in the next few days and will then have to be examined by the City Council to be approved and come into force in mid-July. Last October 18, the Council had already approved an agenda with the guidelines of the new tariff system underlying today's proposal from the Council.

The new tariff system surpasses the numerous systems currently in force and allows, in a fair and uniform way, the full integration of travel tickets and access to the entire public transport offer included in the Milan, Monza and Brianza basin. For the first time, the tariff structure is organically simplified for citizens and the number and type of permits needed to travel are reduced. The simplification in many extra-urban areas translates into a reduction in fares for commuters and has the aim of making the use of public transport increasingly competitive by reducing the use of private vehicles in favor of greater fluidity of travel and quality of the environment.

Among the main elements contained in today's proposal, which concerns only the Milan area, is the maintenance of the cost of the season ticket at the current 330 euros to protect the continuous use of public transport by citizens and workers. With one more possibility, that of monthly payment installments.
Furthermore, it is proposed to introduce multiple stamping in the metropolitan network (always within the validity of the ticket).

Among the most important innovations is the free transport service for young people up to 14 years of age to provide concrete help to families. Again for young people, the plan provides that the price of the season ticket remains unchanged and reduced up to the age of 27 instead of 26; Furthermore, the benefits are extended up to 30 years with ISEE under 28 thousand euros (monthly or annual reduced to 22 and 200 euros respectively) at an unchanged price compared to today.
Another new feature is also dedicated to young people: the BikeMi season ticket for those who also have public transport season tickets drops from 29 to 12 euros up to the age of 27. From the age of 28 the cost for the double subscription goes from 29 to 24 Euros. For everyone, starting from the introduction of the new tariff system, it will be possible to "load" the BikeMi subscription onto the ATM card, completely integrating the two services.

Facilities also for the elderly: free season ticket for those over 65 with an ISEE of less than 16 thousand euros; for those over 65 with ISEE income between 16 and 28 thousand euros, the annual ATM subscription costs 200 euros; the new 'Senior off peak', at the same cost, will be valid on the surface from the start of service (and not just from 9) and will be available to everyone aged 30 and over and to pensioners aged 65 and over.

An annual subscription of 50 euros is introduced for people with an ISEE of less than 6 thousand euros, for unemployed people with an ISEE of less than 16 thousand euros and for people detained on a work permit outside the place of detention.

However, the rates for occasional travel tickets have been revised. Among these is the single ticket which goes from 1,50 to 2 euros but its use will be extended: the single ticket will be valid not only in Milan but also in first-tier municipalities for example Rho Fiera, Sesto San Giovanni, Rozzano, San Donato, Bresso, Bollate etc.

“We want an ever better public transport service – declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility and Environment – and we are investing in this, even in the face of fewer resources from the Government and the Region. This is why we have chosen to protect workers and citizens and not tourists and occasional users. Moving on an efficient, fast, widespread collective transport network with fair fares over an increasingly larger territory is the only possible answer to people's need to move and to guarantee a better quality of the air we breathe".
