Councilors for culture: measures announced by Minister Franceschini in the right direction. Councilors/MiBACT relationship bears fruit

Milan, 22 April 2020 - A few hours ago Minister Dario Franceschini announced in Parliament significant measures just taken to implement the cure Italy decree.

The 20 million euros "for the world of entertainment, theatre, dance, music, circuses, festivals which are excluded from the FUS" and the 13 million euros "of copyright for musicians and artists under a certain income" are an important first support for the smaller and more fragile entities in the world of live entertainment, deeply affected by the stop and the social distancing measures that will be necessary for recovery.

In the month that we have behind us we have insisted on the need to use the resources provided for in the "cura Italia" to give concrete support to the many small and medium-sized realities that are fundamental for the Italian cultural system, on the urgency of putting new ones in place for the people and the activities excluded from the March decree and to support the municipalities on whose ability to intervene the cultural life of the country largely depends.

On this basis we have established a constructive discussion with the Minister and the Ministry, a discussion which today is beginning to bear important concrete fruits. We have reason to believe that the measures announced today will be followed by others in the same spirit, in live entertainment, cinema and audiovisual, but also in other sectors of cultural production, bridging, with the next decree-law and hopefully also in support measures to the municipalities, the gaps left in the first Cura Italia decree, especially for intermittent workers and the many freelancers.

We are confident that by continuing to discuss and listen to each other, working seriously and together, we will be able to save the sector and relaunch cultural production, on whose fate that of the country and our cities depends.

The councilors who promoted the appeal are:
  • Luca Bergamo, deputy mayor with responsibility for cultural growth - Rome;
  • Adham Darawsha - Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Palermo;
