Maran: "The regeneration strategy continues to make the squares the centers of the neighborhoods"

Milan, 1 April 2021 – More livable and tidy spaces arriving in two squares in the Forlanini district. While on the one hand the redevelopment works on Piazza Artigianato are starting these days, on the other the construction sites in Piazza Ovidio are being concluded.

"The regeneration strategy of the city squares continues with the aim of making them the effective center of their neighborhood – declares the councilor for Urban and Green Planning Pierfrancesco Maran –. These interventions are also the result of a process of listening to the citizens, the committees and traders, with the aim of intercepting their needs. Between Piazza Artigianato and Piazza Ovidio we will have, a few hundred meters away, new spaces for everyone: children, elderly people, citizens and four-legged friends".

The intervention in Piazza Artigianato aims to bring the central space, which today appears to be a messy and little-used area, into dialogue with the pavements and commercial activities around the square, creating a new quality public space that can be lived in safely. The project involves the expansion of the central parterre, the introduction of a speed limit of 30 km/h, and the creation of a new pedestrian crossing. The square will also be equipped with new benches, which will be positioned under the large trees present in the square, and racks, while in the center some floor games such as the goose game will be created, for the entertainment of the little ones. The work will be completed by the end of the summer.

And for a construction site that starts, one ends. Work on the construction of a new agility dog in Piazza Ovidio will be finished after Easter, where for the occasion the crossings have also been redeveloped with new draining paving, the lawn has been sown and flowerbeds have been created where some plants will be planted in the next few days. In the coming months, on the opposite side of the square, an inclusive play area will also be created as part of the Gioco al centro - Playgrounds for all project, the project launched in 2018 by the Municipality together with Fondazione di Comunità Milano with the aim of creating areas equipped with inclusive games in the public parks of the nine municipalities of the city.
