Milan, 5 April 2021 - Conservation activities on the city's historical heritage continue. The conservative restoration of the monument dedicated to Carlo Cattaneo in via Santa Margherita has just been completed. The intervention, which lasted approximately 3 months, involved the cleaning of the stone and bronze surfaces, characterized by deposits of different nature - from atmospheric pollutants to metal oxides transported on the ornaments and generated by the proximity of the tram line - followed by final sealing works of all the joints, by the final protection works of the stone and by the application of microcrystalline waxes for the surface protection of the bronze apparatus. Finally, the area of ​​the monument was reorganized with the cleaning of the gate that outlines the green area in which it is located. 

The restoration of the monument is part of a series of ongoing interventions for the regeneration of various city statues. Among the latest, the restoration of the monument dedicated to Carlo Porta between Via Larga and Piazza Santo Stefano carried out on the occasion of the bicentenary of the poet's death, the conservative intervention of the work "Centauro" by Igor Mitoraj at the fountain in Piazza Enzo Paci and that of the Statue of Italy at the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens in coordination with the Superintendence.  

"The care of the city - declares the councilor for urban planning and greenery Pierfrancesco Maran - also passes from the conservation and enhancement of its monuments, which are part of the history and culture of Milan and the country".

Among the upcoming interventions, the one relating to the statue of Emilio De Marchi at the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens, the conservative restoration of the Cross of Sant'Ulderico in Piazza San Nazaro in Brolo and, in a second phase, on the monuments dedicated to Felice Cavallotti in via Senato and Luciano Manara, located near the access from the ramparts of the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens. Next, in parallel with the start of the redevelopment of Piazza Castello, will be the conservative restoration of the monument dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi located in Piazza Cairoli, affected by multiple deposits, especially of pollutants and ferrous metals due to the proximity of the tram lines.  

The interventions on the monuments are flanked by those on the ornamental fountains. The redevelopment of the two fountains in via Perini in Quarto Oggiaro and that concerning the pools in via Bruno Cassinari are about to start.
