Street furniture. The first interventions for the redevelopment of Piazzale Archinto are underway

New paving, greenery, play area, the restyling of the square begins with work on the underground services. Minor changes to traffic. Maran: "Intervention that improves liveability and quality of public space"

Milan, September 12 2019 – The redevelopment of Piazzale Archinto is at the starting line. Work has begun in recent days on the replacement of the aqueduct line by MM and for the replacement of the gas network by UNARETI. Once the work on the underground services has been completed, the actual restyling of the square will begin.

"The intervention aims to extend the paved pedestrian areas and the greenery to improve the liveability of the square, moderate the speed of traffic, transform the square from an area dedicated to nightlife to a place suitable for children - declares the councilor 'Urban planning Pierfrancesco Maran - The redevelopment of Piazzale Archinto is part of the strategy to improve the quality of public space also applied to other restyling projects for other squares in the city, such as Sant'Agostino, Rimembranze di Lambrate, Piazza San Luigi, Piazzale Lavater , the Nettle".

In particular, a new Luserna stone flooring will be created for approximately 1.620 square metres, level to ensure complete usability of the area. The driveway areas will be kept in asphalt with limited access to residents and Zone 30 regulations. There will be a significant implementation intervention on the green areas, with approximately 877 square meters of flowerbeds and the preservation of existing trees. Inside the new square there will be a new play area of ​​approximately 180 square meters with anti-trauma flooring dedicated to after-school attendance by parents and children. The cost of the intervention is approximately 985.000 euros. 

To allow the works, a one-way system was established in Piazzale Archinto and in via Carmagnola with access from via Pollaiuolo, via della Pergola, from via Verme towards via Pastrengo. The completion of the works is scheduled for August 2020.
