The next openings of exhibitions in the museums and exhibition spaces of the Municipality of Milan: Acquario, PAC, MUDEC and Studio Museo Messina

Milan, June 30 2020 – The fourth edition of “Milano Museocity”, the initiative promoted by the Municipality of Milan, will take place from 31 July to 2 August 2020 | Culture, and created in collaboration with the MuseoCity Association, which for three days will see Milanese museums protagonists of hundreds of events including guided tours, extraordinary openings and special initiatives, all linked by the common thread of this edition, "Women protagonists", in coherence with the theme of the 2020 cultural schedule "The talents of women" promoted by the Department of Culture. 

“Milano MuseoCity” 2020 will aim to highlight not only the talents of female artists, collectors and intellectuals of all times, but also to enhance works from Milanese museum collections that depict female subjects. Numerous digital proposals from public and private institutions that will participate in this edition, and all "in presence" initiatives will be based on the need for limited entrances and physical distancing within the rooms. 

There are also many special initiatives planned: among these the "Invisible Museum" meeting, during which the various institutes will have the opportunity to present themselves and tell their stories to the public and which will become a podcast downloadable from the MuseoCity channels starting from Friday 31 July ; the “Secret Museum” itinerary, curated by Gemma Sena Chiesa, dedicated to “The ladies of museums”, which will allow each participating institution to make known some works from their collection inspired by the female world; the international conference "Women and Innovation in the Contemporary Museum", which will be broadcast on Saturday 1 August on the Association's YouTube channel and which will give rise to a public debate dedicated to the best practices of all those women committed to changing the common perception of the museum.

This year's edition will also be enriched by "Museo Diffuso", a virtual journey this time to learn more about the museums participating in "Milano MuseoCity": an in-depth study possible thanks to an app that will provide information not only on the museums, but also on the works of art present on the facades of 40th century Milanese buildings and on over XNUMX works of street art in augmented reality, granted by MAUA-Museo Arte Urbana Augmented, to discover city itineraries outside the center and ordinary art circuits.

While waiting for "Milano Museocity", in the next few days other museums and offices of the Municipality of Milan will reopen their rooms with new exhibitions and initiatives, inaugurating their summer exhibition season.

The Civic Aquarium opens the exhibition “Confluences. Letizia Fornasieri”, dedicated to the world of Lombardy's aquatic landscapes, to the flora and fauna typical of these environments; a corpus of largely unpublished works that follow the pictorial path of the artist who has always been attentive to the theme of nature and the Italian countryside. From 2 July the PAC | will also reopen its doors Pavilion of Contemporary Art with “Performing PAC”, the exhibition that this year investigates the relationship between contemporary art and music, narrating - through video works, archive materials, interventions by artists, critics and curators - the interaction between sound and image in contemporary artistic practice and research. The exhibition itinerary develops around the works of 5 artists who use sound and music in their research: Barbara and Ale, Jeremy Deller with Nick Abrahams, Pamela Diamante, Invernomuto and João Onofre. The MUDEC | From Friday 3 July, the Museum of Cultures of Milan will present the first in-depth analysis after the lockdown, reopening to the public, after the permanent collection, also the Focus Space of the Museum. With the exhibition “My bed is a garden – Mi cama es un jardín. The fabrics of the women of Mount Quichua" will offer visitors an overview of the textile production of the Argentine mountain, thanks to the exhibition of a selection of specimens donated to MUDEC in 2016 by a private collector. The exhibition is accompanied by a film/documentary which is the result of ethnographic field work carried out by MUDEC researchers in July 2019. An ideal dialogue between masters of sculpture comes to life from 10 July in the evocative spaces of the Studio Museo Francesco Messina, where the monumental works of the artist Maria Cristina Carlini will inhabit the spaces that once belonged to the sculptor Francesco Messina. The exhibition, entitled “Maria Cristina Carlini. Geologies, memory of the earth”, will be open to visitors with free entry until 8 September, from Thursday to Sunday (11am-18pm).
