Area B. The installation of the cameras continues, to date 45 gates active

The trial of 50 days of access after the first entry has been extended. New rules also for historic vehicles, transport of heavy goods N2 and N3 and street trading

Milan, February 25 2020 – In recent days, new cameras have been activated, in addition to those already in operation, for a total of 45 access gates to Area B, active to allow the effectiveness of the ZTL established to restrict the most polluting vehicles to be extended.
In fact, the 2019 data tell us that Area B - in the streets where the cameras have already been activated - has allowed traffic to decrease by approximately 12-13%.
The first 15 devices were activated when the measure was launched a year ago, along the ZTL border at the gates of via Anassagora, Pirelli, Sarca, Giuditta Pasta, Gallarate, Tofano, Basel, Zurich, Gonin, Baroni, Cassinis, Rogoredo , Carlo Feltrinelli, Mecenate, Fantoli.
Subsequently, the procedure for installing, connecting and configuring new devices was started. On January 7, the cameras were installed in the streets of Corelli, Camillo and Otto Cima, Rubattino, Caduti di Marcinelle, Monneret de Villard, Carnia, Palmanova and Palmanova at the railway bridge, Cambini, Clitumno; on January 13, another group of cameras in the streets of Assietta, Gabbro, Bovisasca, Oriani, Certosa 1 and Certosa 2, Bressanone, Gallarate, Capodistria, Montefeltro; on January 17, in Columella, Sesto San Giovanni, Fulvio Testi 1, Comboni, Senigallia 1 and 2, Vincenzo da Seregno 1 and 2, Litta Modignani and Apennines.
All these devices, after the usual 30-day pre-operation period, have progressively begun counting entries and sanctioning activities for vehicles whose access to Area B is not permitted.

In total, there are therefore 45 Area B gates in full operation.
Added to these cameras are the devices installed (and currently in the pre-operation phase) on January 24th in the streets Monsignor Romero 1, Seguro, Luraghi, Gozzoli, Lucca 1, Lucca 2, Ciconi, Lorenteggio, Lodovico Il Moro, Buccinasco; on 7 February in the streets of La Spezia, Bordighera, Naviglio Pavese, Manduria, Pismonte, Ravenna, Fabio Massimo, Mazzucotelli, Futurismo; on February 21st at the Rombon 2, Assunta and Raccordo Autosole gates.
New installations are therefore planned during the month of March to complete 73 gates in Via Leoncavallo, Teodosio, Unità, Rombon 1, Palatucci, Cilea, Sant'Elia, Borsa, Artigianato, Certosa 3; on March 19 in Forlanini, Grassi, Padre Morelli, Ornato, Fulvio Testi, via Chiesa Rossa, Padova, Castrovilla, dei Missaglia, Adriano, Certosa 4.

In June, however, the pre-operation of the cameras of the next batch will progressively begin and by 2020 the network of 187 cameras positioned at the gates of Area B, already indicated today with vertical signs, will be completed.
In recent days, some changes to the provision have been approved by the Administration. Thanks to the mechanism of the letter sent home in conjunction with the first access to Area B to owners of vehicles with restrictions, it was possible to directly inform citizens who were still unaware of the bans and avoid repeated sanctions. For this reason, the mechanism that allows 50 days, even non-consecutive, of access to Area B, introduced experimentally for one year, has been extended and can be used between the date of the first access of a new vehicle and 30 September 2020 and will be further improved and automated with the creation of an IT platform that will make it permanent, again for the first accesses.

As regards vehicles (cars and motorbikes) of historical interest that are at least 40 years old and are equipped with a Certificate of Historical Relevance attesting to their regularity, they will be able to access Area B after registering their license plate. Vehicles of historical interest that are more than 20 years old and less than 40, always provided that they are equipped with a Certificate of Historical Relevance, will be able to access Area B only for 25 days a year, in addition to Saturdays and Sundays.

The rules also change slightly for vehicles transporting heavy goods N2 and N3 (over 75 quintals) and Euro 2 diesel buses M3 and M6 for which the ban on access and circulation in Area B takes effect after the twentieth year from the date of first registration if this was carried out by 31.12.2020; after the fourteenth year from the date of first registration if this was carried out from 01-01.2021 to 31.12.2020 and from 1 October 2030 if registered starting from 1 January 2026.

Finally, since from next April 1st some exemptions that the Lombardy Region had defined, for example, regarding street vending will be revoked in implementation of the 'Move-In' experimental project (monitoring of polluting vehicles), Area B is also being adapted. Membership the 'Move-In' experimental project allows you to have a predefined number of kilometers available that can be used annually by each vehicle belonging to one of the emission classes subject to traffic restrictions that can be used in territories subject to traffic restrictions for environmental reasons.

To find out in detail the regulations of Area B and find out about the prohibition calendars, you can consult www.comune.milano.it/areab where there is useful information, documents and relevant legislation. Also from here it is possible to access the portal https://areab.atm.it (the use of the Chrome browser is recommended) where it is possible, after registration, to verify and control the accesses made and request the exemption: it therefore allows you to manage the license plates of their vehicles through a registration of mandatory fields. Furthermore, an Infopoint on the mezzanine of the Duomo station on the red line of the metro is also open to the public these days. The opening hours of the service are from 8.30 to 15.30, from Monday to Friday.
All procedures can always be done online through the Municipality and Atm web pages.
