Animals. Voucher from the Municipality for the free sterilization of dogs and cats

Councilor Grandi: "Project to support owners in difficulty and to combat abandonment"

Milan, November 13 2022 - The project of the Municipality of Milan begins, in collaboration with ATS, to promote free sterilization for dogs and cats owned by citizens and residents in a state of economic fragility.
The vouchers, available until funds run out, are aimed exclusively at owners of animals with an ISEE income not exceeding 6.500 euros, with priority, in the case of dog ownership, to sterilization requests relating to the 27 'special' breeds (and their crosses ) listed in the Animal Protection Regulations of the Municipality (for example American bulldog, Pit Bull, Bull Terrier, Rottweiller, Dogo argentino etc.).

“Surgical sterilization – explains Environment and Green Councilor Elena Grandi – is the only truly effective tool in demographic control strategies for dogs and cats and allows us to prevent litter abandonments. Furthermore, it is a means of protecting the health of animals living in borderline situations determined by the economic fragility of their owners. We then decided to give priority to 'special' dogs to try to curb illegal breeding which is often the cause of the exponential increase of these breeds within the municipal kennel park. These are complex animals to manage and this jeopardizes their adoption unless after long periods of rehabilitation. Thanks to the vouchers, each owner involved in the project will be able to benefit from economic savings ranging between 75 and 220 euros, given that the costs of the intervention will be borne entirely by the public body".

To access the service, the animal must be microchipped and registered in the pet animal registry before the operation. To request the voucher (available until 20 November 2023 and while funds last) simply write an email to the offices of the Animal Protection Unit of the Municipality of Milan at m. ufficiotutelaanimali@comune.milano.it or contact the number directly 02.884.54910 from Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 13pm and from 14pm to 16pm to receive all the information and, if you meet all the requirements, obtain the issue of the voucher to present to the veterinary clinics affiliated with ATS.

Users are informed that the vouchers are sold out.
