"Over 2 million euros to guarantee the continuity of an essential service for the well-being of our four-legged friends"

Milan, 11 December 2021 — The Municipality of Milan opens the search for a new manager for the city's cat kennel. From today until January 14th it will be possible to participate in the tender for the management of the main reception facility for abandoned animals awaiting adoption. The Administration has foreseen a total allocation of over 2 million euros over three years to guarantee the operational continuity of the structure of over 30.000 m² overall, which over the years has been able to act as a point of reference for the hospitalization and well-being of dogs and cats found wandering, seized or sold for serious reasons.

"Today we are launching an important study for the city - explains the councilor for the Environment and Green Elena Grandi - because we are aware that combining economic sustainability, through events and fundraising, with the quality of the care service for the guests of the Kennel Park is the best way to shine the spotlight on the precious activity that takes place here on a daily basis. The municipal kennel is part of the city and offers fundamental services and for this reason we want to increasingly involve the operators, volunteers and associations that will operate here in its management".

The tender provides for the assignment of services within the structure in via Aquila 81, divided into two different lots according to the different needs of the animals housed.

Specifically, the first lot concerns the activities of custody and care of the well-being of the hosted dog population and the related administrative activities, as well as the implementation of activities for the inclusion of new entries and the recovery and behavioral rehabilitation of the guests, aimed at the adoption of the dogs in custody. Also planned are the transport of animals to and from the veterinary clinics and the cleaning of the structures and common areas of the municipal kennel park.

The second lot concerns the custody and care activities of the feline population and all the activities connected to the inclusion of new entries and the adoption of cats housed in the "Gattile" pavilion inside the municipal kennel park. Including the care and cleaning of the structures, purchase of food and litter for the animals housed in addition to normal administrative activities.

Among the objectives required of the winners of the tender, in addition to achieving the highest possible level of well-being (physical and psychological) for the hosted animals, there is also greater involvement of the world of volunteering (both individuals and associations) as well as the implementation of actions aimed at raise citizens' awareness of the importance of activities to combat stray dogs.

On the basis of the experience gained from the inauguration of the structure to today, the need to provide in the management of the structure a close interconnection between the dog education activity and the care of the dogs hosted by the Kennel Park is confirmed, with an increase in the hours dedicated to the paths aimed at adoption, the primary purpose of the structure.
