Cocco: “Thanks to the new procedure, office processing times have been more than halved and requests processed in just a few days”   

Milan, September 17 2019 – You can now request a change of residence from your PC or smartphone. A new service is available on the portal of the Municipality of Milan which allows you to submit the request for a change of residence directly online.
Simply access the "Residence" section, choose between the options "Residence for Italian citizens" or "Residence for foreign citizens" and, after a brief registration, follow the instructions for filling out a form with all the necessary information and documentation.  

“It is a clear and simple procedure that allows citizens to send all the documentation without the need to go to the counter – declares the councilor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services Roberta Cocco -. We tested the system for a few days and immediately highlighted its benefits for offices and citizens. Thanks to closed and mandatory fields, the risk of inadmissible practices due to errors or lack of documentation has dropped drastically, along with response times. With the procedure via email or at the counter, the average processing and processing time was around two weeks while, thanks to the online compilation, a change of residence procedure from another Italian municipality is managed and concluded within three working days".

The operations available: change of residence due to transfer from another Municipality or from abroad (for foreigners), change of address within the Municipality of Milan, registration in the Milan registry office for Italian citizens coming from abroad and registered in the Registry of Italians Resident Abroad (A.I.R.E.), transfer of minors and transfer of residence abroad for Italian citizens.

At the end of the procedure, citizens will receive an email notifying them that the registry office has taken charge of the case.  

In the case of a transfer request from another Italian municipality or abroad, a second communication will notify citizens of the official start of the procedure following which, thanks to silent consent, the request will be considered automatically accepted.
Ten days after the introduction of the service, 742 applications have already been submitted, of which 483 have been successfully processed.
