In the first six months of 2020, 4.856 children were born

Milan, August 11 2020 – Milanese parents remain faithful to the more traditional names even in the first half of 2020. As has been the case consistently since 2015, for many of the new little residents the choice of names fell on Leonardo, Sofia and Giulia. Among the most common surnames, however, there is something new: Hu surpasses the very Italian Rossi also in the women's ranking.

Among the 4.856 born between 1 January and 30 June, 213 Leonardo, 108 Sofia and 106 Giulia stand out. Followed by Tommaso (153), Riccardo (123), Alessandro (122) and Lorenzo (120) for boys, Ginevra (90), Alice (84) and Camilla and Beatrice for girls (79).

Foreign mothers and fathers also prefer the name Leonardo (58), who last year was only in 4th place, far behind Mohamed (34), who gave up the first position this year. Followed by Tommaso (28), Alessandro (25), Lorenzo (24). Among the choices for girls, Sofia (28) triumphs, ahead of Maria (21), Aurora (21), Ginevra (19), Sara, Giulia and Alice (18).

Also loved are names linked to mythology such as Hector (33), Aeneas (44) and Diana (31) and biblical names, such as Noah (32), Samuele (48), Davide (44 Italian children and 19 foreigners) and Rebecca (43 ), up to the more traditional names such as Francesco (75 Italians and 16 foreigners), Anna (64 Italians and 17 foreigners), Maria (35 Italians and 21 foreigners), Marco (48) and Matteo (66 Italians and 20 foreigners).

This year too, the "Welcome to the house of cuddles" welfare project returns for little ones and their families: a few weeks after birth, parents will receive a welcome letter from the Municipality of Milan with instructions to collect it free of charge in one of the 90 locations of LloydsFarmacia the gift package containing products for the health and well-being of children and parents.

Among the most common surnames among Milanese residents, however, there is something new: this year the surname Hu surpasses the very Italian Rossi also in the female ranking: the Hu ladies, in fact, are 2.210, compared to the 2.133 Rossi ladies. In third place the Colombo ladies (1.832). Same podium also among male surnames: 2.454 Hu, 1873 Rossi and 1543 Colombo. Fourth position for the ladies and gentlemen Ferrari (1.720 and 1.506 respectively).
