Reduction of the operating period of combustion thermal systems for heating in the territory of the Municipality of Milan - Postponement of activation to 29/10/2022

Milan, October 18 2022 – The high temperatures recorded in recent days, unusual for the season, as well as an increase in PM10 present in the city's air accompanied by the need to reduce consumption, have motivated the Municipality of Milan to postpone the switching on of the heating systems . The ordinance for the reduction of the operating period of combustion thermal systems for heating purposes was signed today by the Mayor Giuseppe Sala, postponing their switch-on to October 29th.

The provision is in continuity with the national plan for the containment of gas consumption (DL Cingolani), which provides, in order to reduce natural gas consumption, the introduction of temperature limits, daily hours of ignition, and duration of the heating period.

The ordinance strengthens the Administration's attention to the protection and quality of the air breathed by citizens given that heating systems for civil use constitute a significant, although not the main, source of emissions of atmospheric pollutants.

The postponement of the switching on of heating systems is not foreseen for: hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and shelters for actions and minors, as well as for protected structures for the assistance and recovery of drug addicts and other subjects entrusted to social services. Nursery schools, nurseries as well as swimming pools, saunas and buildings used for industrial and artisanal activities are also exempt.
