Environment. The journey to explain the air-climate plan to the new generations of Milanese starts from the schools

Grandi: "Meetings that are in tune with the requests of young people to involve them in the vision of a sustainable and climate-conscious Milan"  Milan, February 25 2022 – Milan promotes a new culture of the environment and sustainability starting from the 'Fridays For Future' generation. The new path wanted by the Administration to inform and raise awareness among young people about the contents of the Air Climate Plan, approved by the City Council, starts from five Milanese high schools. A series of meetings born in the name of participation and aimed at forming a new awareness in the citizens of tomorrow, who will always be more attentive in combating climate change thanks to the adoption of sustainable, circular, environmentally friendly lifestyles and consumption models to the city's resources.   The first five institutes to be involved are the 'Brera' artistic high school, the 'Einstein' scientific high school and the 'Cattaneo', 'Molinari' and 'Cremona' technical institutes.   Previously, an introduction to the Air Climate Plan was presented at the 'Parini' and 'Tito Livio' classical high schools last year.     “I decided to meet the kids firsthand – says Environment Councilor Elena Grandi – in the belief that the Air Climate Plan is a first and concrete response to the requests that have come to us in recent months from the boys and girls of the generation ' FFF', who with their demonstrations ask politicians to give concrete answers to their requests to protect the environment and their future. It is precisely by starting with young people that we can initiate that real cultural, methodological and action change that thanks to the PAC we want to achieve through a Milan that becomes the best example of a sustainable and climate-conscious city".     Each institute will host three one-hour meetings with technicians and representatives of the Environment and Green Department of the Municipality of Milan. The first will introduce students to the issues relating to the global effects of ongoing climate change and the related repercussions on individual health and on the economies of countries, as well as the need to implement immediate countermeasures so that these phenomena do not become endemic and irreversible.   During the second day, however, attention will shift to a local level, analyzing the effects of these changes on the city of Milan and the responses that the Air Climate Plan puts in place: actions and behaviors necessary for the reduction of CO2 and polluting agents , development of active mobility, reduction of vehicular traffic, widespread use of energy deriving from renewable sources, adoption of conscious and responsible lifestyles, as well as the containment of the rise in urban temperatures, the depaving of soils, the protection and valorisation of green spaces and energy efficiency measures for buildings.  There will also be homework: between the second and third meetings the students, thanks to various group activities, will be asked to imagine, propose and suggest interventions in their neighborhood in line with the actions proposed by the Air Climate Plan to improve the liveability, protect the health of citizens and encourage responsible lifestyles and behaviours.    Over the next few months, other city schools will be involved in the project to make the new generations aware of the Air Climate Plan and to think together about an increasingly sustainable, green, welcoming and inclusive Milan.
