Environment. The green guarantors of the Municipality of Milan have been appointed

The new organization is made up of Alessandro Bianchi, Nicola Noè and Ilda Vagge

Milan, 29 December 2022 – The protection and enhancement of soil and greenery will be increasingly at the center of the Administration's actions. The three members who make up the Green, Soil and Trees Guarantor of the Municipality of Milan have been appointed. They are Alessandro Bianchi, Nicola Noè and Ilda Vagge.

The Soil and Green Guarantor was established in 2021 by the City Council with the task of ensuring the correct application of the regulations regarding land consumption and green protection. A collegiate body made up of three members chosen from among people who have distinguished themselves for their professional commitment in the field of environmental, urban planning and agronomic sciences. The three guarantors, who will remain in office for five years and will carry out their duties pro bono, will report to the Mayor, the Council, the City Council and the Commissions; they will have access to administrative documents and will be able to report and request initiatives and interventions from the Municipality bodies whenever they deem it appropriate.

The task of the new body is to contribute to ensuring the protection of the soil, 
the increase in urban greenery and the protection of trees; to promote listening and information actions towards citizens; to dialogue with municipal offices regarding compensation projects linked to land consumption, as well as to monitor the evolution of its use and the provision of green surfaces, trees and their increase, informing and involving citizens. These tasks will also be carried out in collaboration with the municipalities who, together with the guarantors, will supervise interventions on the land and private green areas and the correct application of the Regulations for the use and protection of public and private green areas. Finally, they will be able to promote initiatives to disseminate knowledge of plants and their physiology by producing and distributing information material.

The three profiles were selected among the 22 applications received in response to the notice published on the website of the Municipality of Milan. They are: Alessandro Bianchi, born in Rimini in 1969, graduated in Architecture with a PhD in Surveying and representation of architecture and the environment. He boasts many years of qualified experience in university teaching in the field of architecture and urban studies, as well as significant professional activity in the field of architecture and landscape, he is the author of numerous scientific articles and books on the topics of greenery and landscape. .

Nicola Noè, born in Milan in 1960, graduated in Agricultural Sciences with a PhD in Plant Biology and Productivity of Cultivated Plants, has many years of qualified experience in university teaching in the field of botany and arboriculture, as well as decades of experience in the design of urban greenery and environmental protection, as well as holding numerous positions as an expert in landscape-environmental matters for the Building Commission and member of the Landscape Commission in various local authorities.

Ilda Vagge, born in Genoa in 1966 and graduated in Natural Sciences with a PhD in Plant Biology and Ecology in the Mediterranean Environment, has many years of experience in university teaching in the sector of agricultural and environmental sciences and research activity in Plant Biology , as well as as an expert member of naturalistic subjects of technical committees at various public bodies.
