Environment. The Municipality invites you to participate in air monitoring

Milan, January 12 2023 – The Municipality invites citizens to participate in the monitoring of pollutants in the air and in the epidemiological investigation aimed at identifying the close relationship between pollution and health.
The “NO2 NO Grazie: Let's save the air” campaign was created by the “Cittadini per l'Aria” association and enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Milan. The aim is to monitor the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the areas of the metropolitan cities of Milan and Rome. Nitrogen dioxide is a gaseous pollutant, mainly coming from the combustion of diesel vehicles, which has a serious impact on human health. The campaign is part of the "Citizen Science" initiatives that the Administration intends to promote and enhance for a better understanding of air quality in the city.

Citizens who want to join the "NO2 NO Thanks: Let's Save the Air" monitoring campaign will be able to register and find all the information at www.cittadiniperlaria.org/campagna-monitoraggio-2023 no later than January 14th.
Members will receive a sampler that can be installed near homes, schools and workplaces. At the end of the monitoring period the samplers must be returned to be sent to the analysis laboratory.

The widespread monitoring initiative is part of the broader plan of actions and projects implemented within the Air and Climate Plan for the improvement of air quality. With this in mind, the municipal administration is installing its own advanced multi-parametric air quality measurement systems (to date there are five stations installed by AMAT) to verify the effects of the local policies implemented. The results of the control units will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the various planned or experimental interventions underway and identify the areas in which it will be more urgent to act with measures to protect the population's exposure, effectively reducing the health risk linked to air pollution for the weakest sections of the population and for the most sensitive and exposed subjects.
