Milan, June 9 2021 – Music, theatre, art, dance, cinema, fashion, design: Milan's summer becomes beautiful thanks to the resumption of many, many activities that can finally be enjoyed in person, thus recovering their original and deeper meaning, and giving the Milanese and to visitors to our city, beauty and emotion throughout the season and throughout the entire urban space.
“La Bella Estate” is in fact the title of the program in which all operators who wish to propose cultural, sporting, recreational and free time initiatives in the city until 21 September can participate. By adhering to the schedule - the public notice is already online at https://web.comune.milano.it/dseserver/webcity/garecontratti.nsf/WEBAll/24A11B22DE2ABAB0C12586E20044E4C3?opendocument – operators will be able to benefit from simplified procedures and quick authorisations, coordinated communication and free land occupation.

The fulcrum of the initiatives already planned by the Municipality of Milan is the Sforzesco Castle, which in the splendid Cortile delle Armi hosts the stage of "Estate Sforzesca" again this year, while in the Viscontee rooms it offers the great exhibition on Renaissance Sculpture, from Donatello to Michelangelo , produced by the Castle's curatorial staff together with the Louvre in Paris, open to the public from 21 July. The ticket for the Estate Sforzesca shows will be accompanied by a voucher that will allow you to visit the Castle Museums and the exhibition "The Body and the Soul, from Donatello to Michelangelo" with reduced admission. Details about www.milanocastello.it/it/content/estate-sforzesca-2021.

“Estate Sforzesca”, the event promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Milan, eco-sustainable and completely plastic free, is on stage from 11 June to 8 September with a new edition that offers over 80 shows of music, theater and dance: every a different show in the evening, outdoors and in complete safety. Opening on the 11th evening with a concert by Paolo Jannacci accompanied by the COF Civica Orchestra di Fiati. Press release attached and program on www.yesmilano.it/estatesforzesca.

Music will resonate in the city also thanks to Pianocity Milano, which on the occasion of its tenth edition will offer 100 concerts in 10 different venues, from 25 to 27 June; throughout the summer the many concerts organized by I Pomeriggi Musicali, the Verdi Orchestra and the Società del Quartetto will take place; the Milano Arte Musica festival returns in July and August, and in September, from 8th to 26th, MiTo Settembre Musica, with concerts spread across various places in the city.

Starting from the month of June, the Teatro alla Scala reopened its doors to its public, first only on the stages and in the gallery (the “Four Choreographers” evening will be staged in this setting on 9, 10 and 11 June) and then also in audience (25 June with Maurizio Pollini's concert and 26 and 29 June and 1 July with Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro” in a production by Giorgio Strehler). On July 3rd the Theater orchestra will be directed by Maestro Manfred Honeck while on the 7th and 8th the ballet will return with the Contemporary Evening. The Theater's activity will continue with three days of events in the city on 11, 12 and 13 July, concluding on the 14th at the Piermarini, in which the Philharmonic, the Choir and the Ballet will participate. The detailed program will be announced in the coming days.

Music will also be the co-protagonist of other events and festivals, which have developed their program in a multidisciplinary way, offering meetings, screenings, theatrical performances, initiatives dedicated to children: among these La Milanesiana, from 16 June to 4 August, with its rich and structured program; Vapore d'Estate, second edition of the exhibition organized by the laboratories currently resident at the Fabbrica del Vapore; Farout, festival dedicated to contemporary creation, at Base in the Tortona area from 10 June to 24 July; East Arena of the Martinitt Theatre, which in the Lambrate area offers 10 events including films, concerts, comedy shows and stand-up comedy from 15 June to 100 September; Mare Culturale Urbano, which has already begun its kaleidoscopic season on May 28th.

The artistic proposal of the Milanese summer will extend from the center to the borders of the city with the exhibitions of Palazzo Reale (continued "The Ladies of Art. Stories of women between the 500th and 600th centuries", "Divine and Avant-garde. Women in the Russian art” and “Prima, donna. Margaret Bourke-White”), Castello Sforzesco (where from 21 July the exhibition from the Louvre “The Body and the Soul. Renaissance Sculpture from Donatello to Michelangelo” will be set up), Museum of the twentieth century (the great retrospective dedicated to Mario Sironi opens on 23 July), Pirelli Hangar Bicocca (where the long-awaited return of Maurizio Cattelan will take place on 15 July), Gallerie d'Italia (which recently opened the exhibition “Painting is back” dedicated to the painting of the 80s) – GAM Gallery of Modern Art (with the recently inaugurated exhibition “Misfits” by the Iranian artist Nairy Baghramian); and then again the PAC with the refined photographic exhibition of Luisa Lambri, the MUDEC with the fascinating story in images of the life of Tina Modotti, Palazzo Morando with the surprising "engraver" Federica Galli.

Triennale Milano, in addition to the "Triennale Estate" calendar of events, will offer a wide range of exhibitions including architecture, design and contemporary art, ranging from the collective "Les Citoyens", created in collaboration with Fondation Cartier, to the refined solo exhibitions on Enzo Mari, Vico Magistretti, Carlo Aymonino.

The exhibition season of "La bella estate" will end between 13 and 19 September with Milano Artweek, as always in collaboration with the modern and contemporary art fair Miart.

Outside the museum rooms, "La Bella Estate" in Milan will come to life on the many stages spread across the city with the words and gestures of the theater: the summer festival "Up close no one is normal" will be staged at the former Paolo Pini Hospital, which since 1997 has combined art and social inclusion, creativity and active citizenship, urban regeneration and reconstruction of identities; the Piccolo Teatro will bring narrative theater and choreography, the exploration of thought and new dramaturgy to the various municipalities, as well as to the "Nina Vinchi" Cloister; there are many theatrical shows scheduled in the program of Estate Sforzesca, which offers its stage to various Milanese companies; the FOG Performing Arts Festival, which will take place not only at the Triennale Milano Teatro but also in other city spaces; the summer festival of the Menotti Theater at Palazzo Sormani, which throughout the month of July will offer original shows in the Court of Honour, with the audience arranged around the scenic action illuminated only by the natural light of the sunset.

Palazzo Sormani will also be the venue for "Milano in giallo live", the series of meetings which from 8 to 30 June will give the opportunity to meet live the ten authors who are giving life to the sixth edition with their detective and noir novels of "Milan to read", the initiative to promote reading which until June 30th offers ebooks to download for free from the site www.comune.milano.it/milanodaleggere.

Words and images together will instead be projected on the big screens thanks to the programming of Arianteo, which this year will inhabit the open air spaces of Palazzo Reale, Corte dell'Incoronata and Triennale Milano (special closing event of the "The talents of women" program on 22 June at Palazzo Reale, with the free screening of a short film and the film dedicated to the Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie). Furthermore, from 1 July to the first week of September, the traveling cinema project "Anteo nella città" will spread cinematographic culture "on four wheels" in various squares spread across the eight Milanese municipalities.
As regards design, the extraordinary nature of the Salone del Mobile 2021 edition (5-10 September) will allow the events, presentations and meetings that will be part of the "Milano Design week" program to become part of the "La beautiful summer".

The Milanese summer will also be characterized by many sporting events. On 18 and 19 June we start at Sempione Park with the Run Free, a foot race on tracks and distances for every type of speed and resistance. On July 6th, meet in Piazza Affari for the start of the fifth stage of the women's Giro d'Italia. On August 24th music and sport will meet in the setting of the Civic Arena in the "Football rock" solidarity event, a concert/third half in which footballers will perform in duets and jam sessions with singers, bands, DJs and producers. From 27 to 29 August, the canoe and kayak speed competitions valid for the Italian Championships of the two disciplines will take place in the waters of the Idroscalo and the following day, 30 August, the Expo for Sport, the great sports festival for under 14s with five days of free summer camps and two days of final event to return to the pitch in total safety.

On Saturday 4 September the Arena Civica will once again be the protagonist by hosting the "International Athletics Meeting" and on the same weekend spectacular acrobatics and evolutions in the waters of the Darsena with the "Redbull Wake The City", the first major wakeboarding event in the heart of Milan .

Also in September the city races return: Sunday 12th with the "Corsa dei Tre Parchi", a day of running, walking and fun immersed in the greenery of the Trenno Park, Parco delle Cave and Boscoincittà; the following Sunday, 19 September, the "Polimirun", the now classic foot race organized by the Polytechnic of Milan.

Finally, on 19/20 June the Castle will host the photographic set organized by Coop Lombardia which again this year, with the title "Feed Love", will give visitors the opportunity to have their portrait taken in the Cortile della Rocchetta with their pet by the internationally renowned journalist and photographer Silvia Amodio who has been exploring the relationship between man and animals for years; and on 11/12 September the new edition of the Drawing Festival will take place, with artist workshops and creative workshops open to all to give free rein to creativity with pencils, pens, brushes, nibs and markers.

The schedule program is available on www.yesmilano.it/labellaestate and, given the possibility of joining until September, it is continuously updated.
