Milan, February 14 2020 - In recent days the Administration received a report of potential contamination in the land of the Vettabbia Park owned by the Municipality - a plot located in the Vaiano Valle area - entrusted to a company through a leasing contract since 2016. The analysis carried out from the company, whose notification has not yet reached the Administration, would have detected the presence of polluting agents in the land and in the cultivated vegetables, the production of which was suspended before marketing.

While waiting to examine the documentation and proceed with an in-depth analysis of the healthiness of the land, the Administration immediately took action by informing the environmentalist associations - Italia Nostra, WWF, Legambiente - the Milanese agricultural district DAM and the Department of the report. of Environmental Sciences and Policies at the University of Milan. The decisions necessary to guarantee maximum safety and, if necessary, any recovery actions will be shared with all these subjects.

The latter, if they were to be activated, will follow the indications of Ministerial Decree 46/2019 which prescribes a specific innovative approach for areas for agricultural use aimed at guaranteeing the maintenance of their peculiarity in the protection of health and the environment. In particular, the envisaged approach involves the identification of possible crops compatible with the soil or natural reclamation interventions such as phytoremediation.
