Agriculture. Urgent intervention to guarantee water to the farmers of the Southern Milan Agricultural Park

Milan, June 18 2022  - Given the continuation of the drought, the Municipal Civil Protection Operations Center was convened yesterday, in which representatives of the East Consortium also took part, together with the representatives of the Municipal Administration and the competent departments of the Municipality of Milan. Ticino Villoresi, of the Communion of users of Ticinello del Naviglio Grande and of the public company MM Spa.  Objective: to find solutions together to address the state of difficulty that many Milanese agricultural companies are experiencing, including those that manage agricultural land in the Municipality of Milan, supporting them to deal with the danger of lack of or partial lack of irrigation of the fields.  At the end of the COC, the Municipality of Milan asked the Est Ticino Villoresi Consortium, responsible for the hydraulic management of the dock, to proceed with adopting all the strategies and maneuvers necessary to ensure the highest volume of water available until the critical situation persists , also by reducing the hydrometric level of the Darsena, giving priority to its use for field irrigation over other uses.   This morning the Est Ticino Villoresi Consortium therefore carried out actions to reduce the water level of the Darsena, allowing the restoration of a water flow which in these hours is guaranteeing the regular irrigation of the fields in the South Milan Agricultural Park. The COC Drought of the Municipality of Milan will be reconvened in the next few days to monitor the evolution of the drought also in other agricultural areas of the municipal territory, collecting the critical issues in synergy with the Reclamation Consortia, the Districts and the Trade Associations and evaluating intervention strategies with all the relevant bodies from time to time.
