November 25th. From 'Do it yourself' squares to blankets spread out in Piazzetta Reale, a 'No' to violence against women and a 'Yes' to equality

All called to participate in the Viva Vittoria Milano project to bring thousands of blankets to the streets

Milan, November 21 2020 – The first step measures only 50 centimeters but to do so the collaboration of many citizens is needed. The 'Viva Vittoria' project for raise awareness of gender equality against violence against women.

Open to all, the initiative - sponsored by the Municipality of Milan - consists of the collection of 'squares' of wool or other yarn (50 cm by 50 cm) knitted or crocheted, which will then be sewn together (with a red thread, symbol of union between women) to form hundreds of blankets. The blankets will then be exhibited on 6 and 7 March in the small square in front of Palazzo Reale in a special and spectacular public installation and sold upon free donation. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Telefono Donna and Svs Donna Guida Donna, two associations that deal with the support and care of abused women for their reintegration into society.

“The peculiarity of the Milanese project is to try to directly involve as many people as possible – explains Daria Colombo, the Mayor's delegate for gender equality – which is the best way to raise awareness. We have activated a network of points for the creation and collection of squares in the area, starting from the Milan Women's Centers of the Municipality, also involving association offices and neighborhood shops which will reopen at the end of the lockdown. Viva Vittoria Milano will soon also inaugurate its own space in via Amatore Sciesa 20 where the blankets will be sewn. And the final appointment will be in Piazzetta Reale for Women's Day. I hope there are many, many, young and old, who want to make their contribution."

The Viva Vittoria project was born from the idea of a group of women from Brescia who, in 2015, launched the first event in Brescia. Subsequently Cristina Begni, Silvia Lumini and Roberta Palmieri took the initiative to various cities in Italy and beyond. In Milan - the promoters and organizers are Enrica Bologni, Nicoletta Cobolli, Nicoletta Confalonieri and Alba Gallizia - the event will take place on 6 and 7 March 2021 with the pavement of Piazzetta Reale entirely covered with multicolored knitted blankets.

The collection centers are indicated on the website www.vivavittoria.it under 'New projects' - Milan (https://www.vivavittoria.it/progetti/nuovi-progetti/viva-vittoria-milano/) and on the Viva Facebook page Vittoria Milan.
