#STEMinthecity. 155 free streaming events for the final marathon on 21, 22 and 23 April

Councilor Cocco: "A journey that began five years ago which reaches its culmination today with the most important challenge of our time, sustainability, to be achieved thanks to innovation and the young generations of male and female scientists". The fifth edition of the event that promotes access to technical-scientific courses and studies without gender distinction

Milan, 19 April 2021 – The #STEMINTHECITY 2021 marathon was presented today: three days, from 21 to 23 April, in which through the steminthecity.eu platform it is possible to access over 155 free events to learn about the world of STEM disciplines with workshops, interviews, testimonials and webinars.

The initiative of the Municipality of Milan - organized in collaboration with important entities in the public and private sector and with the support of the United Nations - to promote access to study paths and technical-scientific professions, reaches its fifth year this year. edition. A journey that began in 2017 with events spread throughout the metropolitan area and which last year, following the health emergency, became digital. A need that the event made virtue of, managing, also thanks to the partnerships activated, to go beyond the city borders and making its contents available to anyone, anywhere.

This year's edition, entitled “Naturally STEM. For a sustainable and digital future", places emphasis on two central issues for society: on the one hand the digital revolution that is affecting all production sectors and all areas of our lives and on the other the environment that we are called to protect to ensure our well-being and that of future generations. The collaboration with the Milan-Bicocca University is part of this context with 'Il Bosco delle STEM' - a laboratory for the training of new male and female scientists: for each class that participates in an event of the event, a tree will be planted which will encourage the development of the green area of the Forest.

"We started this journey five years ago and we are very proud of the results achieved, despite the strong changes that our society has experienced in the last year - said Roberta Cocco, councilor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services of the Municipality of Milan -. Thanks to the synergies with our ecosystem of partners, we managed to involve many schools in Milan and the Metropolitan City and in the rest of Italy. The 155 events of the Marathon and all the appointments of STEM Month are testimony to how new digital technologies are considered positive and enabling factors for an inclusive society without stereotypes. The most important challenge of this time is sustainability: to achieve the goal of a society that truly takes care of the environment around it we need young generations of male and female scientists and the fundamental contribution of innovation".
