#STEMintheCity 2021. The fifth edition begins with a month of free events

Milan, 13 April 2021 – The "STEM month" comes to life, the first stage of the fifth edition of STEMintheCity, the initiative of the Municipality of Milan organized in collaboration with important entities in the public and private sector and with the support of the United Nations to promote access to courses and studies in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field and the diffusion of new digital technologies as positive factors for an inclusive society without gender stereotypes.

To get out of this difficult moment and be better prepared to face the future requires everyone's contribution: it is necessary to definitively put an end to gender disparities in study paths and in the world of work in the technical-scientific fields. Municipality of Milan we have been working in this direction for five years and we are happy that so many realities have once again accepted our appeal, offering boys and girls, meetings, testimonies, training activities and role models to inspire them".

A rich schedule of live and on-demand appointments that can be used free of charge through the steminthecity.eu platform will follow one another throughout the month of April with events dedicated to schools of all levels, but also to parents, teachers and anyone who wants to explore issues and technologies that will play a key role in our future, such as artificial intelligence, the focus of the meeting on Wednesday, April 14 at 17:00, organized in collaboration with Hewlett-Packard enterprise. An opportunity to understand some basic concepts about this technology and why it is important that women also take care of it.

The afternoon will continue with a meeting, at 18 pm, organized in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan in which the mathematical models that allow us to follow the evolution of the pandemic and how they can be used to predict the occupancy of treatment beds will be illustrated intensive, but also to anticipate the onset of new pandemic waves and quantify in advance the impact of the pandemic on hospital structures. Relaunching the studies of technical-scientific disciplines and exchanging experiences between schools and companies is the objective of the "Deploy your talents" campaign, developed in Italy by the Sodalitas Foundation together with partner companies. On April 23 at 10:00 students will present performances on the contents learned and on the theme of the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda.

Programming is one of the skills most in demand by the professions of the future: the meeting on Sunday, April 25 on online coding (10:00-12:30) that Hewlett-Packard Enterprise addresses to all primary and secondary school children first degree who wish to approach this subject.
