"Milan is alive" in the neighborhoods. Over 2,5 million awarded to support the live show in the city

47 projects financed with funds from the MIC, which mainly take place beyond the external ring road Introduction - Summer map - Winter map

Milan, 1 July 2022 – It closed today, with the publication of the outcomes, the call to access the funding of over 2,5 million euros (2.512.000 euros, to be precise) that Milan received from the MIC - Ministry of Culture with the aim of supporting live entertainment in the less central areas of the city.

Out of 111 projects presented, the evaluation commission identified 71 that met the criteria set by the public notice: entertainment proposals that take place mainly in the neighborhoods of the city located beyond the ring road (the one crossed by line 90/91) between 15 June and 2 October and subsequently between 1 and 31 December 2022, presented by organizations financed under the FUS or in any case operating in the live entertainment sector for at least three years.

The capacity of the state allocation made it possible to finance 47 of them, with cuts of 15.000 (14 projects), 45.000 (15) and 90.000 euros (18) based on the size, multidisciplinarity and value of the project itself.

The initiatives are approximately distributed as follows in the different municipalities:

  • 19 in Municipality 2;
  • 12 in Municipality 3;
  • 11 in Municipality 4;
  • 13 in Municipality 5;
  • 14 in Municipality 6;
  • 9 in Municipality 7;
  • 15 in Municipality 8;
  • 13 in Town Hall 9.

Seven projects are also planned in the territory of Municipality 1, as segments of more complex initiatives that develop mainly beyond the circle of the external ring road.

Within the territories of the nine municipalities, over 80 neighborhoods are involved, including Dergano, Baggio, Casoretto, Forze armite, Quintosole, Stadera, Quarto Oggiaro, Crescenzago, Chiaravalle, Giambellino, Gratosoglio and QT8, just to name a few.

The initiatives will take place throughout the summer and during the month of December, animating the city until the end of 2022: in fact, 30 funded projects concern the summer period (until 2 October) and 17 will implement their planning in December, in the last part of the year. In total, there are over 500 widespread initiatives, involving over 100 entities/operators operating in the entertainment field in the city.

"Thanks to the funds from the Ministry of Culture – declared the Mayor Giuseppe Sala – we have been able to achieve various objectives that we have set ourselves: on the one hand, supporting the resumption of cultural activities and, in particular, of live entertainment, after a long period of difficulties; on the other, to create opportunities for participation and social sharing in urban contexts characterized by greater fragility, in order to increase the potential for inclusion of entertainment initiatives; finally, to promote projects that provide effective strategies to improve the environmental impact".

The Milanese summer of live entertainment

In the meantime, the city's live entertainment programming has already started thanks to the coordination of the Municipality of Milan - Culture which has promoted, with various lines of support, including economic, the city's "Milano è Viva" program, directly producing some exhibitions in own spaces and facilitating the autonomous initiative of the operators who have joined the schedule.

"Estate al Castello", the music and theater festival which opens with its first concert on 12 July in the Courtyard of the Arms of the Sforzesco Castle, "Vapore d'estate", with its multidisciplinary program already underway, and "Sormani d 'summer', which begins its shows on July 4th with a program coordinated by the Menotti Theater on the stage set up in the Court of Palazzo Sormani, are all projects co-produced by the Administration, which has invested over 600.000 euros in their creation.

"Over 3 million euros, this is the public investment for the live entertainment sector in Milan – concluded the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi –. Music, theatre, dance and multidisciplinary projects, which in turn are expressed in festivals , exhibitions, concerts and shows, but also workshops and theatrical readings, workshops with the citizens of the neighbourhoods, artistic performances, itinerant stories and everything that the definitive return to the close relationship with the spectator has allowed the city to reinvent, with the aim to make Milan more and more alive".

Other initiatives self-produced by Milanese operators have been able - and still can because the tender is still open - to participate in the public notice of "Milan is alive" link which offers a series of benefits from the Municipality: among these the reduction to 50% of the poster fees, the COSAP discount for the occupation of public land, if due, or even the free concession of spaces by the Municipality or municipalities, and the reduction of the terms required for the municipal authorizations necessary for the realization of the initiative from 30 to 20 days.

At the moment, over 50 operators have joined.

Promotion and communication

All the initiatives that are part of the "Milan is alive" program in various capacities are promoted by the Administration with communication support from the Municipality of Milan - Culture, with an outdoor campaign coordinated by the Communications Directorate, which will be developed in various places and city spaces from 11 to 24 July, and with constant promotion on the YesMilano channels which this year has created a platform, ad hoc to promote all the city's live activity to a local and international audience. Each operator who is part of the "Milan is alive" schedule will be able to upload their own event to the platform, and each citizen will be able to search for their "live opportunity" by filtering the contents inserted by date, type of initiative and neighbourhood.
