“The talents of women”. Special edition of "Mickey Mouse" on newsstands on Wednesday with a special story dedicated to women scientists

An initiative promoted by the Bracco Foundation and Panini Comics which is part of the schedule promoted by the Municipality of Milan

Milan, March 3 2020 – On the occasion of "International Women's Day" on March 8, the weekly "Topolino" takes on science with a special story, entitled "Daisy Duck and the scientific selection", which places the valorization of female scientific skills at the centre. In the issue on newsstands from Wednesday 4 March, in fact, we will talk about scientific research through the experience of two authoritative protagonists of Italian research, honored in the main story of the issue and protagonists of a dedicated in-depth analysis, created in synergy with the Bracco Foundation.

Written by Gaja Arrighini and with drawings by Silvia Ziche, “Daisy Duck and the scientific selection” takes us to the Duckburg Girls' Club where Daisy Duck invites two scientists from the Quack Foundation of Calisota Valley who will manage to conquer with their stories and their discoveries not only the girls of the club, but also Archimede, Paperoga and all the inhabitants of Duckburg.

The initiative is part of the "The talents of women" program, the program promoted by the Municipality of Milan | Culture which throughout 2020 will propose, with a multidisciplinary and inclusive approach, a path on the role of women in the various creative disciplines, with an emphasis on on social demands for change.

To accompany the comic story, the magazine gives space to an editorial study on science seen from a female perspective, with a double interview with Barbara Caputo (Full Professor of Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin) and Luisa Torsi (Full Professor of Chemistry at the University of Bari).

The two researchers, represented in the story "Daisy Duck and the scientific selection" with two fictional characters, are part of the #100esperte project (100esperte.it), an online database created by the Pavia Observatory with the Gi.U. association. Li.A., developed by the Bracco Foundation and with the support of the Representation in Italy of the European Commission with the profiles of over 220 experts in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), a sector historically underrepresented by women and at the same time strategic for economic and social development.
