”Estate Sforzesca”, The heart of “Aria di Cultura” opens with 80 music, theater and dance events, every evening from 21 June to 3 September

Milan, June 13 2020 – “A stage for Milan”: this is the title of the 2020 edition of “Estate Sforzesca”, which proposes itself, after the long period of lockdown, as a real experimentation platform for new production processes and new forms of access outdoors at the live show, in compliance with the measures established by law.

This eighth edition of the event, hosted as always at the Castello Sforzesco, offers a stage to many Milanese operators, whose activity is currently limited by the restrictive rules for shows in closed places, and to citizens who throughout the summer, from 21 June until September 3rd, they will be able to watch a live show every evening.

“Estate Sforzesca”, promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Milan | Culture, is the heart of “Aria di Cultura”, the program of initiatives that accompanies the resumption of live entertainment and cultural activities in the city, will in fact propose 80 events, with over 40 concerts, 20 theater shows and 4 dance shows, with free or controlled entry. The program is still 'in progress', which is why only the first part of the calendar is being announced today (from 21 June to 12 July).

“EstateSforzesca is a great program that will bring music, theatre, dance to the heart of the city, and finally live – declares the councilor for Culture Filippo del Corno –. From here the show will spread to all neighborhoods, inhabiting cloisters and courtyards, libraries and museums, public and private spaces, thanks to the 'Aria di Cultura' program”.

Participation in the shows will be by compulsory reservation (link on the yesmilano.it website), even for shows with free entry, and access to the Cortile delle Armi will be limited: for now, 360 seats are foreseen, appropriately spaced from each other (at compared to the 500 sessions of previous editions) and standing room is not available. Temperature checks at the entrance and physical distancing are also required (with the exception of family groups).

The program kicks off on a symbolic day, June 21st, the summer solstice and European Music Festival, with "The golden age of swing", with the Civica Fiati Orchestra of Milan in collaboration with Civica Jazz Band - Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, directed by Enrico Intra, and Paolo Tomelleri and friends. A hymn to the Italian sound, but at the same time a show full of rhythm and "black swing" with a tribute to Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Charles Trenet. This is followed by "Milan and Popular Music - From Time to Time...", a show directed by Franco Mussida, founder of the CPM Music Institute, for a journey through time "of yesterday, of now and of tomorrow", with a ethical/historical approach to Popular Music.

To continue in a multidisciplinary plot that ranges from "The talents of women" with "Lucrezia and the others" - a production by Farneto Teatro, by and with Elisabetta Vergani and Silvia Romani (11 July) which addresses the theme of gender violence to starting from the myth -, to social commitment, with the Puntozero Company, made up of young prisoners and non-prisoners (4 July); “Cyrano on the moon” by MTM Manifatture Teatrali Milanesi (26 June) and “Vivi! come il mare - Pièce per due dolfini” by Spazio Tertulliano, with a strong environmentalist sensitivity (23 June); to the world of childhood and young people with “I piccolo cantori di Milano” (25 June) and Ditta Gioco Fiaba with “L' treasure island” (June 28).

Also worth mentioning is ATIR Teatro Ringhiera with “La Molli. Entertainment behind Joyce's back” with Arianna Scommegna, directed by Gabriele Vacis, (June 22); Luca Uslenghi with the concert show “Fire Bird” and “Petrouska” with the music of Igor Stravinsky (28 June); “Io, Vincent Van Gogh”, theater show by the Corrado d'Elia Company (30 June); “Non si sa come” by Luigi Pirandello of Pacta Arsenale dei Teatri (8 July).

An interesting contamination of genres (July 5) brings "Daniele Durante: Taranta on Tour" to the stage, and there is also an international look with "K-Pop Summer Vibes" (July 12) dedicated to the discovery of modern Korean popular music.

“Games of Sforza”, OLtheatre, instead lets us savor the taste of history, transposing a “Game of Thrones” set in the Sforza era to learn more about this dynasty in an entertaining but historically rigorous story (7 July).

Another novelty of the 2020 edition is the participation of "La Milanesiana", guest at the Castello Sforzesco with two protagonists much loved by the general public: Massimo Lopez and Tullio Solenghi (1 July).

The program of shows scheduled from 12 July to 3 September will be communicated later, also on the yesmilano.it website, but we are already highlighting some highlights of the programme: Enrico Ruggeri, again as part of “La Milanesiana” (23 July), “Sulla death without exaggerating”, show produced by the Teatro Franco Parenti” (27 July), “Zelig Live Show Summer Edition” (9 August), Guido Catalano (28 August), Orchestra Verdi (with 2 concerts, 27 and 30 August) .

This edition, like the previous one, will also be eco-friendly, with the aim of raising public awareness on the issue of the environment and implementing good practices and virtuous behavior on the part of both the organizers and the spectators.
