Milan, June 9 2020 – The “A mural for the environment” competition, promoted by the Municipality of Milan, A2a and AMSA as part of the #Ambienteascuola project, has recently ended: 261 works delivered by 80 classes of 22 lower secondary schools which are challenged on a creativity level to create a sketch of a mural on environmental issues, such as separate waste collection, food waste and climate change.

The three winners were awarded courses with professional ecodesigners for the creation of the three murals in their schools. For the first classes, this is the 1B of the San Giuseppe Institute, thanks to the work “The Plastic Orca” by Luca D'Ambrosio; for the second, of the 2G of the ICS Don Orione/Da Vinci with the work “Voltare pagina” by Andrea Nazzari; for the third classes, of the 3F of the IICS Barozzi/Confalonieri with the work “The dream” by Lucia Romanelli. The murals will be created at the beginning of the next school year.

Born on an experimental basis in the 2018-2019 school year, the #Ambienteascuola initiative aimed this year to reach all 34 thousand students of the 125 state, private and private secondary schools in Milan. Until the interruption of the school year, 940 kits (containers for classrooms and common areas, posters and booklets) had already been distributed in 58 schools and over 45 meetings had already been held, in which more than 900 people including teachers and ATA staff had participated .

The aim of the project, since its inception, is to promote in an increasingly widespread way the culture of sustainability, respect for the environment, the sustainable use of resources and energy, the most correct methods for separate waste collection and for the use of urban spaces. The project also intends to achieve some of the 'Sustainable development goals - SDGs', defined by the United Nations and to be achieved by 2030.
