Play Street Monte Piana

Play Street Monte Piana

The street is a play space and a common good

The Pact was created thanks to an agreement stipulated between the Municipality of Milan and Arup Italia Srl which, through a research method to enhance play in cities, developed together with the Real play coalition (made up of Arup, Lego, Ikea, Unicef and National Geographic), and through a process of participation with the school and the neighborhood, led to the creation of a temporary Play street in via Monte Piana.

Play Street was born from a proposal contained in the 2020 Adaptation strategy to facilitate recovery after the pandemic period and rethink the use of urban space according to the principles underlying the Real Play Coalition, the coalition founded in 2018 to study the value of play in the growth and learning of children around the world.

The road was closed on the occasion of the end of the school and constitutes a first experiment of how urban spaces can be intended for shared and new use by the little ones and represent a space in continuity with the adjacent school.

The school itself, the Sottocorno Comprehensive Institute, is one of the protagonists of the pact: management and teachers immediately enthusiastically joined the proposal of a participatory path for the creation of the Play street and the subsequent moment of animation of the space.

The neighborhood associations showed equal enthusiasm as they contributed to making the street a place to play, have fun and play sports.

Thanks to the support of the Pasquinelli Foundation which donated the necessary resources, the "Un libro in movement" association, together with the school's pupils, created murals in the school courtyard and on the walls of the Unareti building, adjacent to the school.

Play Street Monte Piana

The Resilient City Project Directorate and the Educational School Services Directorate, the Mobility Directorate and Amat (Milan Agency for the Environment and Territory) made the project possible.
