The initiative promoted by Municipality 1 is five years old. And it dedicates its Fifth Edition to the cry of Iranian women who addresses three words to humanity.

WOMAN, LIFE, FREEDOM is the theme of the Fifth Edition of "Thursday in the bookshop and ... in the library", the initiative created by Municipality 1, in collaboration with YESMilano, with the Association of Independent Bookshops in Milan (LIM), the Milanese library system and other independent bookstores in the historic center.
And it is the female subject who weaves a red thread that runs through the entire exhibition, evoked by the words Woman, Life, Freedom, the slogan born from exponents of the Kurdish women's movement, which became universal after the murder of Mahsa Amini in Iran.

An event rewarded over the years by a growing consensus, which responds to the interest of citizens with a program that starts on 21 September and ends at the end of May: the calendar currently includes 17 events - but the number is destined to increase - at as many venues that will open the doors to meetings with authors, editorial presentations, readings aloud and initiatives for younger readers.

The project finds its natural base in Milan, a city that builds its own narrative also through the voice of places and people that gravitate around the Book, where Italian publishing has its roots and boasts a rich literary tradition, also demonstrated by the recognition UNESCO Creative City for Literature. The latest survey carried out by AIE in collaboration with Pepe Research (November 2022) shows a very close correlation between participation in cultural events and initiatives (which concerns 6 out of 10 Milanese) and reading (which concerns over 7 out of 10 Milanese): in fact, a virtuous circle emerges which is reflected both in the number of initiatives aimed at promoting books and reading - among which the present project stands out, but let's not forget the Milan Pact for Reading, LaLetturattorno, BookCity... - and in the number of readers, with a value at the top of the ranking at a national level.

The bookshops and libraries that join the initiative:
Alfea Antiquarian Bookshop, BiblioCalusca Condominium Library, Library of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory of Music, Ostinata Library, Parco Sempione Library, Sormani Spazio Young Library, Claudiana Bookshop, Sea Bookshop, Entertainment Bookshop, La Balena Bookshop, Linea d' Bookshop Ombra, Monti in Città Bookshop, Punto Einaudi Bookshop Milan - Literary Gardens, Verso Bookshop, Scaldasole Books.
