Certificate of housing suitability

The housing suitability certificate is a document that certifies how many people can live in an accommodation.

  • Its release is the responsibility of the Municipality where the accommodation is located
  • in some cases the assessment of the health and hygiene requirements of the home is envisaged.

The certificate of suitability for housing is essential for non-EU citizens to obtain:

  • the residence contract for subordinate work, including the regularization of domestic workers and carers (Law 77, 17 July 2020)
  • the EC residence permit for long-term residents - formerly a residence card - possibly also extended to family members
  • entry for self-employment
  • the reunification of family members, if they are abroad
  • the entry of accompanying family members
  • family cohesion, when family members are already in Italy.

In the case of accommodation with a cadastral surface area lower than the minimum allowed of 28,80 mXNUMX, it is necessary to verify the hygienic-sanitary requirements; for this reason it is necessary to be in possession of the certificate of conformity in accordance with the gas and electrical systems and the Chamber of Commerce certificates of the company that draws them up.
