The President of the Municipal Council represents the Municipal Council. The President is granted the powers of convening and directing the work and activities of the Council itself, as well as the further powers provided for by the Municipal Statute, by the Municipal Regulations and, in compliance with the latter, by the Internal Regulations of the Municipality (art. 45 of the Regulations of the Municipalities of the Municipality of Milan).

In this council the President Gianluca Pirovano intends to carry out "a role of mutual guarantee, for the rights and duties of the Councilors belonging to both the opposition groups and the majority groups, towards a common commitment for the continuous improvement of political and administrative effectiveness, in favor of the Citizens."
