New Stumbling Stones

New Stumbling Stones

Milan, February 22 2022 - The "Stumbling Stones" Committee, of which Life Senator Liliana Segre is Honorary President, wants to spread the work of the German artist Gunter Demnig in Milan as well in memory of citizens deported to the Nazi extermination camps.

The initiative, which started in the nineties, has spread to various European countries and consists of small brass plaques, the size of a cobblestone, which bear the name, the year of birth, the date and place of deportation, and the date of death of a Milanese citizen, victim of Nazi-fascist persecution.

The aim of the initiative is to preserve the memory of the deportations, and the stumble metaphorically represents an invitation to reflection.

Tuesday 1 March 2022 a ceremony will be dedicated to two Milanese citizens deported to Nazi concentration camps who resided in Municipality 2, with the laying of two Stumbling Stones:
in via Ponte Seveso 19 from 12 to 25, in memory of Carlo FERRETTI, arrested on 16/11/1943, deported to Mauthausen and murdered in Gusen on 17 February 1945;
in via N. Oxilia, 21 from 12 to 45, in memory of Giuseppe CECCATELLI, arrested on 30/11/1943, deported to Mauthausen and murdered in Gusen on 22 June 1944.
Institutional authorities from Municipality 2 will also be present at the ceremony.
