General reference and evaluation criteria for the final tests

GENERAL REFERENCE CRITERIA AND EVALUATION FOR THE FINAL TESTS

The following document provides guidance on the basic structure to follow when preparing tests for European language courses and on the evaluation criteria.

Such suggestions not are to be considered valid for courses aimed at obtaining international certifications.

  • At the beginning of the course, students are informed that exams are generally carried out within 1 week of the last lesson of the course, barring unforeseen circumstances or organizational needs.
  • The dates of the official A2/B1 exams will be published on the site while the teachers will communicate the dates of the other level exams in good time (at least 1 month before).
  • The Mock Test is administered at the discretion of the teacher and according to the needs of the class.
  • All students always complete both the written and oral parts of the exam. The results of the paper are disclosed upon completion of the test.
  • The tests can be viewed by students after the publication of the ballots in the Scuola Semplice register by arranging a meeting with their teacher.

NOTE: : students who were absent from the test or who only took the test partially (for example they did not take the oral exam) will NOT have the right of pre-emption for registrations for the next module and will go to the end of the registrations for the month of September.

  • Exams of all modules, except level B1.2 will consist of 4 or 5 parts depending on the language: Written comprehension, Oral comprehension, Grammar (optional), Written production, Oral production.
  • For B1.1 level it is recommended to choose to follow the same division into four sections of 25 points, which is adopted for the assessment of level B1.2 (Written comprehension, Oral comprehension, Written production, Oral production); if the teacher deems it appropriate to also evaluate the Grammar in a more in-depth manner, it can maintain the division into 5 sections of 20 points each, communicating this to the students before the end of the course.
The sum of the partials of each section, both for exams divided into four sections and for those divided into 5, is always 100 and each part must have the same score (20 or 25).
  • Standard one-week courses: they follow the same evaluation criteria as bi-weekly courses with tests 4 or 5 parts as in modular courses.
  • Single-week oral skills courses: the test only includes an oral production test.

The student passes the exam if all the following conditions exist:

exam structured into 5 parts:

  • The total score is equal to or greater than 60/100
  • No more than two sections of the exam have a score of 10/20
  • If a student achieves a score of 9/20 in one section of the exam, no other part of the exam should be lower than 12/20
  • No section of the exam is scored lower than 9/20

exam structured into 4 parts:

  • The total score is equal to or greater than 60/100
  • No more than two sections of the exam have a score of 13/25
  • If a student achieves a score of 12/25 in one section of the exam, no other part of the exam should be lower than 15/25
  • No section of the exam is scored lower than 12/25
  • For the B1.2 exam the oral production grade CANNOT be less than 15/25
