Take a Student into your House
The initiative promoted by the MeglioMilano association involves cohabitation between a self-sufficient pensioner and a young person not resident in Milan to share company and accommodation. The project is based on a very simple idea: the bringing together of two generations for mutual help and discussion.
The guests do not pay a real rent but contribute to the household expenses on a monthly basis with a reimbursement of around 250-280 euros, they collaborate by helping out and making themselves available with a little company. In this way a virtuous circle is activated, which on the one hand contributes to reducing the pensioner's loneliness by providing him with new stimuli; on the other hand, it guarantees the student a familiar and peaceful environment in which to study, at a low cost.
MeglioMilano collects and records requests, deepens its knowledge of those who wish to approach the program, organizes meetings and offers its assistance throughout the learning and cohabitation process.

Contractual information

There are three types of contracts that owners can offer to students:

 - "4+4", lasting 4 years plus the possibility of renewal for another 4. It is the most widespread formula among owners as it allows the free determination of the proposed rent.

 - "3+2" lasting 3 years renewable for 2 more.

- "Transitional contract", of variable duration. A necessary condition for a contract of this type to be stipulated is that the agreed fee is proposed, predetermined through calculation tables contained in the local agreement stipulated by the Municipality of Milan with the main trade associations.
The rent is determined through fluctuation bands that take into account the area in which the apartment is located and the characteristics of the property.

The portal YesMilan, in addition to providing an overview of the opportunities that the city offers, in the section aimed at foreign students you can find useful information on accommodation and contracts.

For in-depth consultancy it is possible to contact a CAF, atUPPI (Union of Small Property Owners), at theASPPI (Association of Small Real Estate Owners), at theAPPC (Small Home Owners Association).
