Restoration of the memorial stone to the Fallen of Cascina Bellaria

Restoration of the memorial stone to the Fallen of Cascina Bellaria

On the morning of 26 April 1945, near the Bellaria farmhouse, a convoy of German soldiers and Muti fascists crossed paths with a Fiat 1500 covered in red drapes. Four partisans on board headed to the Isotta Fraschini factory to recover some car tyres.
The partisans try to parley, but immediately a burst comes from a German machine gun.
Eugenio Casiraghi and Luigi Dal Vecchio collapse, hit in the chest.
Meanwhile, an auxiliary comes down from a car that has detached itself from the Nazi-Fascists' column and finishes off the two wounded in the cold.
In the meantime, people and partisans flocked from Piazza Velasquez.
Erminio Grassi, seriously wounded in the belly, manages to hide in the tall grass, is rescued and taken first to the farmhouse and then to the military hospital in via Saint Bon, where he dies the next day.
The fourth partisan manages to slip away, along the canal at the side of the road, reaching his home.

A memorial stone has been placed in memory of the victims of that day.

Years later, thanks to the restoration project of the memorial stones present in our territory proposed by ANPI National Association of Partisans of Italy and supported by Municipio 7, we are pleased to invite you Sunday 13 June at 10am at the inauguration of the memorial stone in memory of the fallen in via Cascina Bellaria, whose restoration was carried out by RAM Restauro Arte Memoria.
