Remembrance Day 2022 - From the history of the eastern border to the elaboration of the narrative of Remembrance

Milan, 7 February 2022 - As part of the celebrations of Remembrance Day 2022 the Ferruccio Parri National Institute with Municipality 7 of Milan presents a moment of reflection dedicated to the history and narration of the dramatic events of the eastern border and the Julian Istrian Dalmatian exodus. The appointment is for Saturday 12 February 2022 from 16pm to 00pm at the Cascina Monastero in via Anselmo da Baggio 55, Milan.

After the institutional greetings which will be brought by Manuel Sciurba, vice president of Municipality 7 and Sara Zanisi, director of the Ferruccio Parri National Institute, the conference will get to the heart of the matter. Giorgio Uberti, researcher and public historian, will introduce the theme from a geo-historical point of view, presenting the territory of the present and the key concepts for understanding a story made up of social fractures and broken narratives.

Enrico Miletto, historian and researcher, will therefore trace the historical framework of the so-called Eastern Border from the Great War to the Treaties of Paris in 1947. Through the evolution of global and local political events we will have the possibility of framing the horror of the sinkholes and the drama experienced by the population of a disputed territory in the dramatic events of war.

After a conclusion by Giorgio Uberti on the process of preserving memories through the places and tools of the elaboration of the communities of exiles, from 1947 to the Establishment of the Day of Remembrance in 2004 it will be possible to ask questions and speak with the speakers.

Entry will be permitted with a strengthened green pass and FFP2 mask.
