De vulgari eloquentia by Dante

De vulgari eloquentia by Dante

Milan, 8 April 2024 -

On the 650th anniversary of Petrarch's death, we encounter Dante Alighieri's treatise on the vernacular language, written in Latin as it was aimed at the scholars of the time.

A work in Latin to reflect on Italian dialects, on the authors and on the future of the vernacular: Dante supports its excellence compared to the Latin language. Petrarch, although writing mainly in Latin, created his own great poetry in that illustrious vernacular preached by Dante, becoming a stylistic model in the following centuries.

The presentation by the expert Franco Sanna who makes use of the artistic contribution of the reader Laura Viganò, takes place in the exclusive space of Casa Petrarca which preserves the wall of the Visconti companies linked to the Poet, undergoing restoration self-financed by CSA Petrarca Onlus, which has concession of the space by the Municipality of Milan.
