On 19 April 1919 the Avanti! headquarters was destroyed. and in 2019, one hundred years later, the Anna Kuliscioff Foundation, In collaboration with the City of Milan, placed, in memory of that dramatic event, a stele in Via Visconti di Modrone, in front of the building - whose address at the time was Via San Damiano 16 - which housed the headquarters of Avanti!.

After the destruction of the headquarters on 19 April 1919, Avanti moved to Via Settala 22, a building built thanks to a public subscription. The new headquarters was attacked three times: on 25 March 1921 the construction site was set on fire, on 4 August 1922, after the fascist occupation of Palazzo Marino, offices and printing works were devastated, and finally on 29 October 1922 the total destruction of furniture, materials and printing machines.

In this last circumstance the damage is irreparable and the newspaper is forced to move to much more modest spaces in a building in via Paganini 10.
On 31 October 1926 the Avanti! will definitively close its doors after the laws against the free press and it should be remembered, in this context, Bonaventura Ferrazzutto, administrative director of Avanti! of the years 1922-1926, who was deported in 1944 first to Mathausen and then to Martheim Castle where he died. . The fact that among the new buildings there is the Alessandro Volta State Scientific High School is one more reason to revive among young people those values of freedom that must have no boundaries.
