Accompanied by the narrating presence of Gioele Dix, the documentary follows the story of the story on the one hand, through direct and indirect witnesses, archive images and the interventions of historians and scholars of the fascist period who stage the long series of mystifications of the twenty years: from land reclamation to the introduction of social security, up to Mussolini, the great military strategist. On the other, propaganda with his songs, newsreels, speeches and self-celebrations of the Duce. If there is one thing that Mussolini was able to do very well, it was the promotion of himself and of businesses for which he often only took credit.

The film is inspired by the book “Mussolini also did good things” (Bollati Boringhieri, 2019) by Francesco Filippi, with a preface by Carlo Greppi. In addition to them, other authoritative historians such as Alessandro Barbero, Claudio Siniscalchi, Giordano Bruno Guerri, Roberto Chiarini, Guido Melis are part of the project.
Alongside them, in the documentary, the stories of those who lived or were able to collect and pass on the experience of the fascist era, such as the witnesses and descendants of the reclaimers of the Agro Pontino, former fascist fighters and victims of the racial laws.
