Laying Stumbling Stones 2023

In Milan, on the initiative of Committee for “Stumbling Stones - Milan”, of which the Senator for Life is Honorary President Liliana Segre, a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp, in the first months of 2023 26 new stones will be laid in memory of the same number of Milanese deported and murdered in the Nazi concentration camps.
The installation will take place in two moments: Monday 23 January and Monday 6 March, bringing the number of "stumbles" encountered in Milan to 171.

26 new Stumbling Stones will be placed in Milan, named after as many Milanese citizens, in 19 different addresses.

- Nissim HAZAN - born in Cimin (Türkiye) in 1899 - arrested 8/11/1943 - deported to Auschwitz on 11/12/1943 - murdered.
- Carolina AMERICAN HAZAN - born in Plodviv (Bulgaria) on 31/07/1910 - arrested on 8/11/1943 - deported to Auschwitz on 11/12/1943 - murdered.
- Ginette HAZAN - born in Plodviv (Bulgaria) on 09/09/1931 - arrested on 8/11/1943 - deported to Auschwitz on 11/12/1943 - murdered.
- Colette HAZAN - born in Sofi (Bulgaria) on 3/05/1934 - arrested 8/11/1943 - deported to Auschwitz on 11/12/1943 - murdered.

In Municipality 2, following a collaboration agreement, the “Ciresola” State Primary School and the “Via Giacosa” State Comprehensive Institute, 46, with some classes will take care of the Stones.
The pact provides for the systematic cleaning of the stones by the pupils and the implementation of an educational programme, potentially also aimed at citizens, on the events linked to the persecutions suffered by the Jewish population, homosexuals, Sinti and Roma, political opponents and disabled people within of the extermination camps and the events connected with each stone
It is already expected that other high schools will also join this initiative.
