“When the sirens sounded. Diary of a wounded Milan"  it's an mostra curated by Roberta Cairoli and Fiorella Imprenti,
Promoted by FIAP – Italian Federation of Partisan Associations
in collaboration with the Aldo Aniasi Foundation andFerruccio Parri National Institute.

Casa della Memoria presents a new exhibition in which history and memory intertwine in the engaging story of those who lived through those terrible days - a reality that contemporary conflicts bring back to the center of our attention: the vision of the approaching planes, the deafening sound of sirens, the impact of the explosions, the rush towards the shelters and the conditions inside them, in the interminable wait for the all-clear. Together with many moving episodes, which remained in the imagination of the Italians of the time.

The exhibition “When the sirens sounded. Diary of a wounded Milan", edited by Roberta Cairoli and Fiorella Imprenti, reconstructs life (and death) during the bombings of the city with the devastating impact of the bombs on not only the urban but also the social fabric.

Lhe exhibition is divided into a journey of ten panels which - through materials chosen from various Italian archives and from the National Archives & Records Administration - wind through period images, news, stories from those who directly experienced the drama of the bombings. Alongside them are reproductions of fascist propaganda posters of the time.

The role of the latter emerges from the research, between exaltation of the welfare initiatives of the city authorities and attempts to minimize the damage, together with the denunciation of the tragic effects of the Allied bombings. The censored letters act as a counterbalance to the propaganda, from which the anger of the citizens towards fascism, considered the real responsible for what was happening, shines through.

At the inauguration the project will be presented by the curator Roberta Cairoli, together with Alice Leoni. They will also intervene Luca Aniasi (FIAP) e Sara Zanisi (Ferruccio Parri National Institute). Some testimonies taken from the most significant passages of the chosen sources will be read aloud by Donatella Fiorella.

There is the possibility of organizing by reservation guided tours for schools, which will also include a workshop on sources.
