Milan remembers the fencing champion Edoardo Mangiarotti

Tuesday 18 July 2023, at 13.00 pm, in the presence of the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, of Carola Mangiarotti daughter of Edoardo, of the President of CONI, Giovanni Malago, of the President of the Italian Fencing Federation, Paolo Azzi and the Undersecretary for Sport of the Lombardy Region, Lara Magoni and of numerous enthusiasts and some champions and athletes who grew up in the Mangiarotti family's Fencing School including the Milanese Diana Bianchedi and Stefano Bellone; the unveiling ceremony of the plaque in memory of was held Edoardo Mangiarotti.

A moment of celebration wanted in these days as a prelude to the great sporting event, the Fie Fencing World Championship – Milan 2023) which Milan will host at the Allianz MiCo from 22nd to 30th July. 

The municipal administration remembered, just over 10 years after his death, the most decorated sports champion of all time.
The fencing champion participated in five editions of the Olympic Games between 1936 and 1960, collecting a total of 6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals, as well as 26 medals won at the world championships.

The plaque placed in via Solferino 24, on the building in which the fencer lived all his life and which was the headquarters of the Mangiarotti Sword Club before moving to via Zarotto, falls within the scope of the project Milan is memory of the The municipality of Milan.
