“Memory is woman” is a project that involved the creation of events dedicated to the memory of women who opposed social injustices and a workshop for children aged 6 to 12 dedicated to equal opportunities.

  1. The first event was dedicated to Miriam Massari, a woman who fought to change disability laws.
  2. The second event discussed fashion as a tool for self-determination and social reintegration. Starting from the story of Massara Francisca, a woman who fought to be able to wear trousers in the 17th century, guests were able to discuss the topic of aesthetic standards and clothing as a tool of social acceptance and control.
  3. The third event was dedicated to the shotgun wedding starting from the stories of Anna Composti and Franca Viola. The association contributed to the event by also including a theatrical performance by the actress Gilberta Crispino, who staged a monologue by Franca Rame. In addition to addressing the topic of shotgun marriage, we talked about the women who contributed to the drafting of the Constitution, starting with Maria Maddalena Rossi, one of the Constituent Mothers who fought for female emancipation.
  4. The last event of the cycle hosted a reflection on the women who fought against the mafia and partisan women, starting from the stories of Rita Govone, Lea Garofalo and Maria Mantuoro.

With this event the Errante Association entered into the story of the women who fought during their lives to fight the mafia and to defend freedom and learned how, on the initiative of young girls and boys, a garrison capable of offering support was born and courage to carry on the battles for the truth. The work of the associations represented by the guests has made it possible to highlight the daily stories of women inside and outside Italian prisons and in the work of those who are at their side every day.

The snack lab, however, was combined in the form of an art therapy workshop on gender equality, thanks to an art therapist who guided the children (6-12 years old) in activities and games that encouraged reflection on the gender gap. Starting from Bruno Tognolini's "Nursery Rhyme of the Different from Me", some tempera drawings were created that narrated the concept of diversity from the point of view of the little ones.

Ultimately, the cycle of events, which was attended by around 120 people divided between the various events (in addition to those who participated and followed the events online), made it possible to keep alive the memory of women who fought for freedom always offering the point of view of those who work alongside women every day. The stories of the past have merged with the battles of the present and have become examples of strength and courage as well as warnings. With this cycle, memory and history have been made teachers of our daily lives and have traced a path towards which we can strive to honor the paths of those who sacrificed and dedicated their lives to the freedom of women.

The 4 live meetings from December to March at the Spazio Alda Merini, in via Magolfa 30, were also broadcast live on the Errante Facebook page.
