THE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE FOIBE

Milan remembers the victims of the Foibe and of the exodus of the Istrians, Fiumeans and Dalmatians from their lands after the Second World War.

Saturday 10 February, in Day of Remembrance, a national civil solemnity established by the Italian Parliament in 2004 to preserve and renew the memory of this tragedy, the Municipality has planned two moments of citizen celebration:

  • All 9 am in Piazza della Repubblica, the commemoration ceremony will take place at the monument in memory of the Martyrs of the Foibe with the laying of wreaths in the presence of the civil and military authorities.
  • All 11 am, in Sala Alessi a Palazzo Marino, the Municipal Administration will host the meeting with the Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles.
    Always a Palazzo Marino, in the Sala degli Arazzi, the exhibition will be open to the public “You will leave everything loved more dearly. The exile of the Giuliano-Dalmatians at the end of the Second World War", a significant excursus on the history of the eastern Italian border. Already exhibited at the Meeting for Friendship between Peoples in 2015, at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels in 2019.
    The exhibition will be inaugurated on Thursday 8 February, at 12:00, by the President of the City Council Elena Buscemi.
    The exhibition will be open to the public and can be visited:
    - Thursday 8 February, from 15pm to 30pm;
    - Friday 9 and Saturday 10 February, from 10:00 to 18:00.
