EUMM (North Milan Metropolitan Urban Ecomuseum) It has been questioning itself, since its inception, not only on the characteristics of heritages, but also on the possibility of keeping them alive.

The activities carried out in 2021, as part of the enhancement of the city's memory, were multiple;
Below is the breakdown into macro areas:

  1. Narrated visits to the Breda Bunkers and places of memory in Northern Milan
  2. Intensive campuses and educational laboratories
  3. New participatory mapping in Niguarda
  4. Academic training activity: internships and lessons

1 - Narrated visits to the Breda Bunkers and places of memory in Northern Milan.
Since May 2021, thanks to the great demand from citizens and the renewed agreement with Parco Nord Milano, monthly visits to the Breda Bunkers have taken place.

Thanks to collaborations with new tour operators and local tourism associations (Guide me, Secret Lombardy, Milan On Tour) a wider audience was involved, coming from increasingly distant areas and new routes for using the territory were promoted.

2 - Eumm and schools
In order to involve citizens in training and the entire community in the history of previous generations, educational and laboratory activities were carried out.

Two campuses were held with the Casiraghi High School on the theme of Memory and its Narration; in which the children met with teachers, experts and witnesses, and then independently explored narrative techniques and produced original material with a view to being returned to the public (families and the Park public).

3 - Network projects: Radici, once upon a time there was the neighborhood that will be.
In 2021, the foundations were laid for the implementation of the Radici project, a collaboration that will involve EUMM with the Cooperative Theater, leader of a Cariplo Call for Culture, which will be held in 2022 and 2023).

In the project, Eumm is involved with the organization of a Participatory Mapping process. The Mapping of Niguarda, 12 years after the first one carried out, will constitute an opportunity for new paths of narration of memory aimed at creating a comparison between the contemporary city and the historic city and promoting greater knowledge of the places and their stories.

4 - Academic training activity
In 2021, numerous collaborations were consolidated with the universities and places of education in the city of Milan; among the others:

  • IULM, classroom interventions and assistance with thesis work of young undergraduates; participation in the conference “Milan and memory” (16 December 2021);
  • Polytechnic (DASTU), classroom intervention with seminar at the School's Specialization course in Architectural Heritage and Landscape (SSBAP);
  • Feltrinelli Foundation: classroom intervention within the Master in Storytelling of the History of the Foundation.
