From villages to the city, from the city to the neighborhoods

MILAN IS MEMORY.
From villages to the city, from the city to the neighborhoods

On 14 December, in the Council Chamber, the initiative was held on the occasion of the centenary of the aggregation of the 11 villages and 150 years since the inclusion of the Holy Bodies in the city of Milan

Yesterday Today and Tomorrow. How the city was born, grew and became what it is now, with its large neighborhoods, its many souls composing a single strong identity. But also of its future as a polycentric city, the result of its peculiar urban development.

It was discussed in the City Council Chamber in Palazzo Marino in an initiative that represented the start of a year of meetings and initiatives, "From the villages to the city, from the city to the neighborhoods", on the occasion of the centenary of the aggregation of the 11 villages and municipalities of the metropolitan belt (Affori, Baggio, Chiaravalle Milanese, Crescenzago, Gorla-Precotto, Greco Milanese, Lambrate, Musocco, Niguarda, Trenno, Vigentino) and of the 150 years since the inclusion of the Holy Corps, the municipality that was located around the city, just beyond the Spanish Walls.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, the President of the Municipal Council, Elena Buscemi, the councilors Gaia Romani (Civic Services and Decentralization Policies) e Pierfrancesco Maran (House and Neighborhood Plan) together with other speakers who found themselves in the same place where, on 14 December 1923, in the presence of the then Mayor Luigi Mangiagalli, the Assembly approved the resolution to aggregate the small municipalities in Milan.

A historical process that has made the city what it is today and which is an opportunity for Milan to reflect on itself, its history and its present and future identity.

The meeting is part of the events schedule of Milan is memory.
