MEMORiANDUM: Memory, Resilience, Resistance
Wikipedia for Remembrance Day

On 27 January 2023, for Remembrance Day, the Task force for the study of the Holocaust and its Denial" of Wikipedia, with the patronage of City of Milan, of Milan is Memory,ANED (National Association of Deportees to Nazi Camps), by Wikimedia Italy and #NoBavaglio Network – Free to be informed, organizes an edit-a-thon (i.e. a marathon of writing new voices) at the Casa della Memoria and a conference at Palazzo Reale in Milan.

MEMORiANDUM: Memory, Resilience, Resistance is this year's theme, finding answers for rebirth amidst the pandemic, wars, economic, employment, environmental crises, fears for the future, for rights acquired or not yet recognized. Today memory is also this, it is awakening with the knowledge of the short century and how it was upset by wars and persecutions of freedom and thought and by the Holocaust. It is a rebirth of freedom, thought, sensitivity towards the common good so as not to become impoverished and not lose rights. Where anyone loses a right, it is your right, it is our right, losing it is a threat, and we need to revive a democratic conscience in people.

In the morning at the Casa della Memoria, via Federico Confalonieri, 14, Milan, from 10,30 to 13,30, at the ANED headquarters, the editathon will focus on the writing of voices on the Holocaust, the participants will contribute, in presence and remotely (from various parts of Italy and Italian Switzerland), to writing and refining entries on the Wikipedia encyclopedia.

In the afternoon from 16,30 pm, a conference will take place in the Conference Room of Palazzo Reale, in Piazza Duomo, 14 in Milan.

Luca Gibillini, responsible for institutional relations of the Municipality of Milan and coordinator of Milan is Memory for institutional greetings.

The National President of ANED, Dario Venegoni, who will speak on the Deportation of the Red Triangles, the political prisoners interned in concentration camps.

The director Roger Gabbai and the well-known historian of the Holocaust memoir Marcello Pezzetti (author) will present the new docu-film "The Breath of Shlomo", a passionate story of Shlomo Venezia, deported to Auschwitz – Birkenau and one of the few survivors among the prisoners who, forced to work in the gas chambers, were eyewitnesses to the Nazi crimes . [The film will be broadcast on the same evening of the 27th as a national preview and in the late evening on RAI 1]

The conference will end with a speech by the president of "Wikimedia Italia", Iolanda Think.

The event is the continuation of meetings of the last five years which took place at the Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center, at the House of Memory, at the Shoah Memorial in Milan and at the Shoah Museum Foundation in Rome and then online due to the pandemic .
