Cultivate memory through places that were the scene of mafia violence. This is the objective of the PhD project in Studies on organized crime of the State University, to which the conference "The places of memory of mafia violence in Milan" is dedicated, scheduled for 29 January, at 15 pm, at the Representative Hall in via Festa del Perdono 7.

“If understanding is impossible, knowing is necessary, because what has happened can return, consciences can once again be seduced and obscured: ours too” are the words of Primo Levi, who “Milan is memory”, the schedule of the Municipality of Milan, which brings together all the city's initiatives on the theme of historical and critical memory, including the project that will be presented on January 29th at the State University, makes its own a project that therefore wants to "trace" the continuity of the moral, civil, cultural and institutional given by the city to mafia violence.

During the event on January 29th, the podcast "The places of memory" will also be presented, created by the doctorate in Studies on organized crime in collaboration with the CTU, which has as protagonists the places in the city of Milan marked by stories of mafia and anti-mafia and which will be published on March 21st, on the occasion of the 24th Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the innocent victims of the mafia promoted by Libera. A scientific publication will then be dedicated to the same places of memory.

The rector will open the conference Elio Franzini together with Fabio Basile, professor of Criminal Law and coordinator of the PhD in Organized Crime Studies, e Mariele Merlati, coordinator of the State Organized Crime Observatory created by Nando Dalla Chiesa.
