Concert at the Monumentale in memory of the victims of the attack in via Palestro

On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of tragic mafia attack in via Palestro, where the explosion of a car bomb caused the death of five people and razed the external wall of the Contemporary Art Pavilion, the municipal administration and the artist to the ground Maurizio Cattelan they promoted LULLABY, a free concert of classical music, hosted in the splendid and solemn setting of the Monumental Cemetery.

In front of the imposing Central Ossuary, the vocal and instrumental ensemble laBarocca ofMilan Symphony Orchestra performed En plein air, under the direction of Ruben Jais, the famous Requiem in D minor K 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in a new version with orchestration of the final numbers by David Del Puerto.

The project, made possible thanks to the support of A2a, was born from the desire not to forget the massacre carried out by Cosa Nostra in Milan on 27 July 1993 and to pay homage to the memory of the five victims, the firefighters Carlo La Catena, Sergio Pasotto and Stefano Picerno, the municipal police officer Alessandro Ferrari and the street vendor Moussafir Drissalle.

The concert was in fact part of the broader commitment linked to the commemoration of the vile mafia attack, which began on March 30th with the presentation, in the hall of the Monumental Crematorium Temple, of Lullaby, the work created by Maurizio Cattelan in 1994.
After the explosion in Via Palestro, the artist recovered the rubble of the PAC from a landfill and then collected it in forty plastic bags stored on two construction pallets. The opera Lullaby,
donated by Cattelan to the City of Milan, it will remain on display at the Monumental Cemetery until 6 November 2022.
